My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

It is still too cold for my liking. I headed out this morning, after clearing off my vehicle. I’m not sure why but neither the key fob or the internet start worked this morning. Not a big deal since I still had to clear off the snow. First I got in and started the engine  so the vehicle was warm when I was ready to travel.   This reminded me of my pioneering days before remote start.

A new law proposed in AZ: ‘Once a decade, every voter would be purged from the voting roles and then have to register to be able to vote.' It won’t pass, but still has to be dealt with by the voters in AZ.

I am amazed that the rescue crews are still finding survivors in the horrific Turkey/Syria earthquake. Thanks to all who are on those rescue crews.

Ellie sent out a notice about a trip in Canada. Sounds interesting for sure. Still thinking.

I am more than curious as to why there is so much concern over where Black History and what Black History is taught and there is no discussion about those concerns regarding other minority groups. Every group has a verbal history of their encounters with others in the past. All history should be taught in schools.

Travel…

Facts…

Highway 1 Is One of the Longest Highways on the Planet

With wide open roads running along meandering coastlines, cutting through vast deserts, and crossing mountainous terrain, Australia is a dream destination for a road trip. Highway 1 (nicknamed the Big Lap) is a 9,010-mile-long road that follows the coastline in one enormous loop. It connects almost all of Australia’s major cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, and Brisbane. It’s also the second-longest highway in the world, after the Pan-American Highway. One of the many fascinating sections of the highway is the “90 Mile Straight.” This perfectly straight stretch passes through the flat, tree-less landscapes of the Nullarbor Plain between Balladonia and Caiguna, in Western Australia.

Slang Origins

1995: As if

Meaning: yeah, right; I doubt it.

"Clueless" remains a perennial favorite in part because of the many words and phrases it added to America's cultural lexicon. Director Amy Heckerling studied real Beverly Hills high schoolers and asked auditioning actors for slang in order to make sure she was capturing how teens actually talked; she discovered “as if,” used in the lesbian community, this way.

Trivia…

The United States of America has gotten its fair share of criticism recently. One of the reasons behind this is the movement towards universal healthcare, which is common in nearly all first-world countries and is seen as a massive positive in powerful countries, but the U.S. has not come to the same decision as some of the rest of the world. While that has gotten a lot of attention, another pressing concern for America is they do not have any required pay for sick days or holidays. This has lead to a rise in the power of unions in America.

Historical Events
