Today’s Thoughts

Another nice fall day.

Biden is headed to Israel, Egypt, and Jordan in attempt to release the hostages. Meanwhile a bomb killed 200 in a hospital in Gaza. Neither side is claiming the bombing. While Biden was preparing, Jordan cancelled the meeting with Jordan’s President as they believe Israel is to blame for the bombing.

Today’s second vote will be happening soon for a Speaker. Republican Jordan and Democrat Jefferies are on the ballot. With the horrific killings in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza, this is the time for the House to unite and a pick a leader. As a teacher, I rarely would cancel recess if the class was misbehaving. Probably a good time to try that.

When my mother passed, I inherited her diamond ring…it is over 100 years old and was given to my grandmother by her fiancé. My mother wore it for almost 60 years. I had it reset and added some turquoise. When in the Peru rainforest I lost one piece of the turquoise. In early August, I took it to the jewelry store that had made it to get the turquoise replaced. I was excited that their jeweler was Navajo. He has been looking for the right turquoise. Today I picked the piece to use and it will be ready in 3 weeks. Excited.

Enjoy

Random Trivia…

The Vikings were the first people to discover America. Half a millennium before Christopher Columbus, Viking chief Leif Eriksson of Greenland landed on the Island of Newfoundland in the year 1,000 AD. The Vikings under Leif Eriksson settled Newfoundland as well as discovering and settling Labrador further north in Canada.

The Colosseum was originally clad entirely in marble. When you visit or see the Colosseum these days, you’ll notice how the stone exterior appears to be covered in pockmarks all across its surface. The reason for the pockmarks is, after the fall of Rome, the city was looted and pillaged by the Goths. They took all of the marble from the Colosseum and stripped it down to its bare stone setting.
