Today’s Thoughts

I had my first full night of sleep, without waking with any pain. Finally.

The Canadian trip seems to be going well. Lots of pictures and from friends on the trip. Miss you all.

Alcoholism is horrific. A good friend has a 49-year-old son in the hospital with liver failure. He is married with teenage twins. His wife told no one about his drinking, until now. He has a high-paying job at Wells Fargo, where he works from home. They seemed to have a great life. A multi-million-dollar home, a new Tesla, lots of BBQ and pool parties. The family wants him in rehab, but the social worker at the hospital says it must be his decision and doing it for others seldom works. This is so hard on so many.

Israel is the midst of a war with Hamas. This is horrific and needs to be watched very closely.

Enjoy

Random Trivia…

During a Roman Triumph, soldiers sang lewd songs about their commanders to amuse the crowds. A Roman Triumph was kind of like a parade where a Roman General and his army would march through the streets, celebrating that they conquered new territory for Rome.  There were many celebratory customs that occurred during a Triumph. One of which was for the returning Roman soldiers to sing crude and banter-like chants about their commanders for the amusement of the crowds.

Despite the legend, George Washington didn’t have wooden teeth! The first American President had luxury dentures that were made from gold, lead, and ivory, as well as being a mixture of animal and human teeth!

The term “saved by the bell” does not originate from people being buried alive. Because of bells attached to coffins back in the day, people wrongly assume that the term “saved by the bell” comes from people being saved by these coffin bells. However, the term actually comes from boxing.

Historic Events

  • 1871 – Four fires in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan killed over 4000 people.
  • 1944 – Ozzie and Harriet debuted on the radio (and on television in 1952)
  • 1956 – The New York Yankees’ Don Larsen pitched the only perfect game in a World Series.
