How many can you identify?…answers in Today’s Birthdays

Free Rambling Thoughts:
Today was nice. Weatherman says to hold on to our hats through the weekend. Maybe some snow on the horizon, but winds for sure. Guess I’ll just wait and see what happens.

So tomorrow is the big debate of VP candidates…At this point in the election cycle, I just want to hear some zingers. Neither of these guys to going answer important questions. They will say it is too complicated to explain in a short time. They will say that only their ticket will fix America. They will say that only they understand the middle class or middle income or some new term. Yes, I’ll be watching and listening but mainly just for some good zingers…as the rest will be political babble. Cynical…maybe.

More evidence against Armstrong. Pretty damning. One of the interviews from a fellow teammate said that the drugs were necessary to make the team viable. Really…cheating to win?

Unusual Fact of the Day:
In the Roman Empire, going blonde wasn’t exactly a fashion statement. At the time, light-colored hair was associated with the barbarian women of Gaul and Germany who often ended up as slaves in brothels. Consequently, Roman law required all prostitutes to dye their hair blonde in order to distinguish themselves from “proper,” dark-maned ladies.

Joke-of-the-day:
A man placed some flowers on the grave of his dearly departed mother and started back toward his car when his attention was diverted to another man kneeling at a grave.
The man seemed to be praying with profound intensity and kept repeating, Why did you have to die? Why did you have to die?"
The first man approached him and said, "Sir, I don't wish to interfere with your private grief, but this demonstration of pain is more than I've ever seen before. For whom do you mourn so deeply? A child? A parent?"
The mourner took a moment to collect himself, then replied, "My wife's first husband."

PORTLAND, Ore. - Two old friends who reconnected during the Portland Marathon in Oregon five years ago held their wedding at the 20-mile mark of this year's race. Katie Holmes and Eric Johansson, friends who began dating and had a son after getting together at the 20-mile mark of the marathon five years ago, said they decided to wed Thursday after running the first 20 miles side by side, KPTV, Portland, reported Monday. Holmes was dressed in white with a veil-bearing baseball cap while Johansson ran by her side in a Dri-Fit tuxedo shirt. They stepped off the course into Columbia Park at the 20-mile mark, where they greeted their waiting family and friends. "It's wonderful, the best day," Holmes said. "Very memorable. The most memorable marathon ever, I think." The couple completed the last 6.2 miles of the marathon after completing their ceremony. "I think it'll be a little easier now," Holmes said before departing for the last leg of the run. "I've got a little adrenaline going through my body right now."
Somewhat Useless Information
  •  A team of Korean scientists set up some traps to catch viruses and bacteria floating in the air. They set up their traps in Seoul, in an industrial complex in western Korea, and in a forest. Based on their collection, they came up with the following estimates...In each cubic meter of air, there are between 1.6 million and 40 million viruses.
  • Given that we breathe roughly .01 cubic meters of air each minute, a simple calculation based on these results suggests we breathe in a few hundred thousand viruses every minute.
  • Viruses are by far the most abundant biological entities on Earth and they outnumber all the others put together. They infect all types of cellular life including animals, plants, bacteria and fungi.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
