Free Rambling Thoughts:
The clouds came in…then some rain…then some clearing…and more rain. A little chilly with the rain, but still nice to have it. Now the weatherman is saying that there might be tornado activity tonight. Glad I live close to a mountain…I think.

A former colleague from Tuba is coming into town, so our lunch group is meeting tomorrow so we can all catch up.  Should be a nice time. So I’ll be watching the debate in a little while, so hope that someone comes up with zingers…my bet is on Biden for the best ones. Ah…Marlarkey…one of my dad’s common retorts!

          Joke-of-the-day:
The Captain called the Sergeant in. "Sarge, I just got a telegram. Private Jones' mother died yesterday. Better go tell him and send him in to see me." So the Sergeant calls for his morning formation and lines up all the troops.
"Listen up, men," says the Sergeant. "Johnson, report to the mess hall for KP. Smith, report to Personnel to sign some papers. The rest of you men report to the Motor Pool for maintenance. Oh by the way, Jones, your mother died, report to the commander."
Later that day the Captain called the Sergeant into his office. "Hey, Sarge, that was a pretty cold way to inform Jones his mother died. Couldn't you be a bit more tactful, next time?"
"Yes, sir," answered the Sarge.
A few months later, the Captain called the Sergeant in again with, "Sarge, I just got a telegram. Private McGrath's mother died. You'd better go tell him and send him in to see me. This time be more tactful."
So the Sergeant calls for his morning formation. "Ok, men, fall in and listen up. Everybody with a mother, take two steps forward -- NOT SO FAST, McGRATH!"

Yeah, It Really Happened
CHESTERTON, Ind. - Firefighters in Indiana said a juggler using lit torches accidentally set fire to his props at a public park. The Chesterton Fire Department said Aaron Rossetti, 36, was practicing his juggling Saturday night at Thomas Centennial Park when the burning portion of a lit torch broke off and landed on the table where he was keeping his props -- which included an open can of camping fuel, The Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana, Merrillville, Ind., reported Tuesday. Rossetti told police the can of fuel caused his props -- which were mostly made of plastic -- to ignite, so he threw them to the ground, where the fire spread to the rest of his props. He said the plastic melted into the park's paving stones. Firefighters responded and extinguished the flames.
Somewhat Useless Information
  • John Herbert Dillinger was born on June 22, 1903, in the Oak Hill section of Indianapolis.
  • Bonnie Elizabeth Parker was born October 1, 1910, in Rowena, Texas. Clyde "Champion" Chestnut Barrow was born on March 24, 1909, in Ellis County, Texas.
  • Kate 'Ma' Barker, birth name Arizona Clark was born in 1871 and died on January 16, 1935. Her children were undoubtedly criminals and were in the Barker-Karpis Gang.
  • September, 1933, until July, 1934, he and his violent gang terrorized the Midwest, killing 10 men, wounding 7 others, robbing banks and police arsenals, and staging 3 jail breaks -- killing a sheriff during one and wounding 2 guards in another.
  • Other members of the Barrow gang known or thought to have murdered are Raymond Hamilton, W.D. Jones, Buck Barrow, Joe Palmer, and Henry Methvin.
  • Many, including Karpis, have suggested that the myth of Ma Barker being the mastermind behind the Karpis-Barker gang was encouraged by J. Edgar Hoover and his fledgling FBI to justify his agency's killing of an old lady. She was shot dead when the FBI raided the cottage she was renting with her son Fred. It was Fred, who was also killed in the raid that had been the Bureau's main target.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
