Random Tidbits

A pistol is a handgun - but not all handguns are pistols.

The defining factor that makes a handgun a pistol is a chamber that is integral with the barrel. Semi-automatic handguns have a barrel with the chamber built in, which means they are pistols. Revolvers, on the other hand, are not pistols, because a revolver contains a cylinder that's separate from the barrel and contains multiple chambers.

My Rambling Thoughts

Another nice rain cooled things off quickly by about 10° in about 5 minutes. No sign of any flooding. Good news all around.

A friend came by and we watched Netflix until 2a. Great new show, ‘Basketball or Nothing’ follows the Chinle Wildcats, from the Navajo Rez on their quest for State Champs. No spoilers, but they sure do a great job of showing the Rez as it is today.  Worth a watch. Even if you aren’t a basketball fan, it shows what the High School kids do on a daily basis, their dreams, their worries…their lives.

You had 10lbs of cucumbers, each of which consisted of 99% water. After leaving them in the sun, some of the water in the cucumbers evaporated. If the cucumbers ended up with 98% water in them, how much of their weight did they lose?

Puzzle answer:

The cucumbers lost half of their weight.

If the water was 99% of the total weight, the remaining substance must have weighed 0.1lbs. If after the evaporation the substance comprises 2% = 1/50 of the cucumbers, the total weight must be 50 x 0.1lbs = 5lbs.
