My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

A decent fall day…and the wind has died down.

Test scores in public schools for grades 4 and 8 have dropped to the lowest since the 1990’s. Covid has a lot to do with it. The finger-pointing is useless. I’m sure many will do their best to make it political. Spend time figuring out how to get the scores back up.

Avian Flu has killed 14 pelicans at the Phoenix Zoo. Very sad.

Flagstaff has a huge salvage yard about 8 miles outside the city limits. It is called U-Pick-It and people can look over vehicles and machinery, take the part they need, pay for it and leave. Last night the part of the place was on fire. It started about 6pm and after 3 engines responded it was a defensive fire about 3am. Thanks to all the firefighters who spent the night on this challenging fire. Now the PD will try and figure out what started it. More will be coming out, it will just take time.

Best Instrumentals

"Tequila" by The Champs (1958)

Yes, the title of this massive hit is mentioned in that Dracula-like voice on occasion, but this is one instrumental track that has stood the test of time. Though it was a one-hit wonder for The Champs in the late 1950s, the song took on a new life thanks to its inclusion in 1985's Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The dance the Pee-wee Herman did to the song has become a pop-culture phenomenon.

They live among us

IDIOT SIGHTING IN FOOD SERVICE.

When my wife and I arrived at a car dealership to pick up our car after a service, we were told the keys had been locked in it.

We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver’s side door.

As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked.

‘Hey,' I announced to the technician, 'its open!'

His reply, 'I know. I already did that side.'
