Thoughts for the day
Another nice sunny winter day.
Presidents' Day, officially Washington's
Birthday at the federal governmental level, is a holiday in the United
States celebrated on the third Monday of February. It is often celebrated to
honor all those who served as presidents of the United States and,
since 1879, has been the federal holiday honoring Founding
Father George Washington, who led the Continental Army to
victory in the American Revolutionary War, presided at
the Constitutional Convention of 1787, and served as the
first U.S. president from 1789 to 1797.
I’m glad that Trump has time for the Super Bowl and the Daytona 500. At the very least he is not signing executive orders during these events.

Forgotten American Heros…
Olaudah Equiano
Olaudah Equiano, an African who was
enslaved, gained freedom and became a prominent abolitionist in the 18th
century. His autobiography, detailing the horrors of slavery, was crucial in the
abolitionist movement.
Equiano's eloquence and passion
provided a powerful voice for the voiceless, influencing public opinion on
slavery.
His relentless advocacy for human
rights and justice resonates today. Equiano’s life and work are a testament to
the strength of the human spirit and the profound impact one individual can
have on the course of history.
Common Misconseptions…
“People in the Middle Ages (sometime
also before) considered water unsafe and preferred wine or beer to prevent
illness. This is not true, as water was the most common drink available,
and access to potable water (running, pulled from a well or provided by an
aqueduct, as 13th-century Tyburn circuit) was a major consideration in location
of settlements and fortifications. Many medieval monastic regulations advocated
drinking water, especially on fasting days. Beer and ale were common because it
not only tastier than water, but also nutritious, while wine was considered a
delicacy and drunk for its taste (and intoxicating effect).”

The word “mesmerize” comes from the name of a German physician and hypnotist named Franz Mesmer who developed the theory of animal magnetism and used it as a healing practice.
