Free Rambling Thoughts   

Not a lot of snow at 6am this morning, but by afternoon a good 7” and still coming down. It has been almost whiteout conditions, then light snow, then whiteout again all day. The street has been cleared twice today and the sidewalks once. I’ve been inside most of the day with an adventure out to empty the trash and another to feed the birds. It isn’t very cold so being outside means one just gets really wet. We need the moisture, but at this time would prefer a nice gentle rain.

 

Today my brother, in NYC and I traded pics of the current snow falling in our areas. That doesn’t happen very often, that both AZ and NYC are getting snow at the same time.

Joke-of-the-day

A man goes to the doctors and asks why he's been feeling ill. The doctor examines him and replies "I'm sorry to tell you, you've got the disease known as Yellow 24." "What's that?” the man asks. "It means your internal organs have started turning yellow - you've got 24 hours to live".

The man goes home and tells his wife the bad news. His wife says "Well, will you come to bingo with me tonight then? Otherwise you'll never be able to." The man agrees so he and his wife go to the bingo. He finds that he's won the one-line and £10. He begins to think this isn't such a bad day after all. Twenty minutes later, he's won the full house and £150. He enters the lucky draw, worth £500, and wins that too. The bingo caller calls him up on stage.

He says "I don't believe it, mate. You've won three competitions in a total of £660 in one night. You must be the luckiest man on the earth!"

The man says "Well, no, I'm not. I've got Yellow 24."

The bingo caller looks down at the piece of paper he's holding and starts clapping. "I don't believe it; he's won the raffle as well!"

Yeah, It Really Happened

34-year-old Michael Oliva was charged in federal court in connection to an attempted bank robbery in Trimble, MO. According to an affidavit Oliva entered the bank, allegedly pulled on a black mask and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at a bank employee and ordered her to give him the money in her teller drawer. Instead of complying the employee dropped to the floor behind the teller station and began shouting for help. As she was crawling away, the affidavit says, she saw Oliva lean over the teller station and point his "weapon" at her.

A second bank employee, who was in an office, heard the shouts for help. He saw Oliva pointing a handgun at the first bank employee and retrieved a Smith & Wesson .357 revolver.

But instead of a shootout what occurred was a near execution, because Oliva didn't have a handgun, he had a plastic toy. Not knowing this, the second employee fired two rounds, the first shot striking Oliva in the face.

Apparently being shot in the face with a .357 was enough for him because he turned and fled. He was arrested a short time later with no money but in possession of an extra bullet.

Somewhat Useless Information   

• The first woman professional artist in America was Henrietta Johnston. She began as a portrait artist in Charles Town (now Charleston) South Carolina in 1707.

• Elizabeth Ann Seton established the first American Sisters of Charity in Maryland in 1809 and became a saint in 1975.

• The first woman to be nominated for President of the U.S. by a major political party was Margaret Chase Smith. She was nominated at the Republican National Convention in San Francisco in 1964. However, the nomination was won by Barry Goldwater.

• Mary Baker Eddy was the first woman to establish a major religion in America. She established the Church of Christ Scientist in 1879.

• Barbara Jordan was the keynote speaker at the 1976 Democrat National Convention in N.Y., being the first African American to earn that distinction.

• Maya Angelou read her poem 'On the Pulse of Morning' at the inauguration of President Clinton in 1993. Angelou wrote five autobiographical volumes beginning with 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings' in 1970. She has also published several volumes of poetry.
