Thoughts for the day

Another cloudy day…I sure wish we would get some moisture from these dark clouds.

In my readings today I learned a new phrase: wage-theft. This is when a company makes record breaking profits and doesn’t raise the wages of its workers. Sadly, I think I know many companies here in the US that are doing exactly that.

Native American Tribes That Dominated History

Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy © History | HowStuffWorks

The Iroquois Confederacy, also known as the Haudenosaunee, was a powerful and influential alliance in the Northeastern Woodlands.

Composed of six nations—the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and later the Tuscarora—they were renowned for their sophisticated governance. This alliance followed a constitution known as the "Great Law of Peace."

This document set forth the principles of democratic governance and collective decision-making.

The Iroquois played a significant role in colonial negotiations, leveraging their unity and diplomacy to influence European powers. Their legacy is a testament to their adaptability and political acumen.

Random Thoughts…

“The last man standing” refers to the ultimate winner in most contests but the runner-up in musical chairs.

Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, David Niven, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig all played James Bond.

George Lucas’s dog was named Indiana.

Misunderstood History…

The Wild West Wasn’t That Wild ©pixabay

Western movies make it seem like the frontier was full of constant gunfights. In reality, most towns had strict gun control—visitors had to check weapons with the sheriff.
The famous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral was over in 30 seconds and was extremely rare.
Crime rates were often lower than in modern cities. The "Wild West" was more about myth-making than reality.
