My Free Rambling Thoughts   

Another dry day with wind here in Flagstaff…large forest fire down by Prescott. So scary for those people, and for us, realizing that it could just as easily happen here. Monsoon can’t come any too soon. Also heard an interesting piece on NPR this morning by our local weatherman. The term ‘monsoon’ is really a season-type word. Therefore, we should all be awaiting the monsoon [season] and not the monsoons….much like we are not awaiting the summers. OK, whatever you call it, we need moisture to pour from the sky and fall all the way to the ground, hopefully not too hard, so that it can soak in.

 

Tired without success to find out about my personal information from the company that has my investment account. Talked to the lawyer who issued the letter about the change. She said that my question: “What steps has the company taken to insure that my paper records in Flagstaff are secure?” She said that she would have a ‘privacy officer’ get back to me. No return call. Left two messages with the lawyer, no call back. Guess what I’ll be doing tomorrow?

Yeah, It Really Happened

Police say a man in Charleston, Ill., ordered a lush meal -- complete with appetizers, steak and lobster and drinks -- at a restaurant, and then refused to pay the $70 bill.

Now, Anthony M. Malabehar has been sentenced to three years in jail.

Malabehar, 47, plead guilty to stealing from the restaurant on April 4, less than a month after pleading guilty to stealing from a different local restaurant, the Journal Gazette & Times-Courier reported.

Alex Schmink, Alamo Steak House's general manager, told CNN that in the most recent incident, when Malabehar's server asked him to pay the bill, he said "I need to tell you a secret. I don't have any money."

"He ordered a filet, snow crab, lobster pinches, snickers pie, two shots of rumple minz, and a Mike's hard lemonade," a spokeswoman for Alamo Steak House told ABC News.

Schmink then called the police, who brought Malabehar to Coles County jail just one day after he'd finished serving a 60-day sentence for the first incident.

 

Though thefts of that amount are usually misdemeanors, Malabehar was charged with a felony because of his criminal history. According to CNN, his record includes 13 convictions for theft or burglary and about 70 arrests for theft.

Somewhat Useless Information   

• While having dinner, a programmer named Toru Iwatani was searching for inspiration for a game character. He saw a pizza pie with a slice missing and the Pac-man was born.

• The game was originally called Puckman, derived from the Japanese phrase pakupaku, which describes the motion of eating or munching. When Bally/Midway brought the game to America, they had it changed to Pac-man.

• Pac-man is the best selling video game in history.

• Pac-Man travels 20% faster in areas where the dots have been eaten.

• Atari passed up the rights to the game, claiming it was too simple.

• The first Pac-Man World Championship was held in New York City on June 5, 2007. Ten competitors from eight countries vied for the champion title, which eventually went to Carlos Daniel Borrego of Mexico. His prize was an Xbox 360 console, specially decorated with Pac-Man artwork and signed by Toru Iwatani.
