Today’s Thoughts
Great
spring day.
A
friend called about 8am this morning and needed a ride back to the Rez. He showed
up about 9am and I took him back home.
Nice trip…
My
dad was an accountant for several different meat packers back in the day. Last
night’s 60 Minutes on child labor at these plants was frightening.
Children as young as 13 were working the all-night shift to clean the kill floors.
I was left shaking my head at this outrageous situation.

Animal Trivia
A
pelican's beak can hold more food than its belly
If
you have ever heard the phrase “my eyes were bigger than my stomach”, then you
just might have something in common with a pelican. Pelican beaks are larger
than their stomachs, making them able to pick up and carry food that they
cannot actually swallow. Of course, this usually works in their favor, as when
they pick up fish, they also tend to pick up a large amount of water. This
water is then dumped, while the fish is swallowed.
Origins of State Names
Michigan
Michigan not only looks like a glove, but its
name fits like a glove. Explorer Jacques Marquette settled the
region in 1668 and named it such as a French derivation of the Chippewa
word michigama, meaning “great or
large lake.” Whale Marquette may not have realized it at the time, Michigan is
the only state that borders
four of the five Great lakes, an impressive geographic achievement for this
northern lacustrine paradise.
