Random Tidbits
When the Citizens Bank of Tenino,
Washington, closed on December 5, 1931, the town was without ready cash to do
business, so denominations of 25 cents, 50 cents and $1 were printed on
three-ply Sitka spruce wood, the first wooden money issued as legal tender in
the United States.

My Rambling Thoughts
Got
up and headed to the polls early this morning. No problem, in and out within 10
minutes and there were 13 propositions along with a lot of state candidates. I
have to say I was surprised when the County opened an office at the mall and
then made the storefront my polling place. I’ve now voted there twice (primary
and today) and must admit, it is strange to vote in a shopping mall store,
instead of the usual church or school. But it works, it’s efficient, and since
it is the only indoor mall in town, lots of people go there. I asked the poll
worker since we were in a retail mall if they were having any deals, like two
votes for one. She smiled and said the 2 for 1 sale starts on Wednesday.
So
glad I don’t live in Phoenix as they don’t seem to ever get voting places
right. The last two elections were long lines, up to 2 hours. This time it
turned out one of the polling places was in foreclosure and the workers couldn’t
set up and had to find another polling place. At another place the church lady
gave them the wrong key, so they couldn’t set up until 8a, and several other
places have 1-hour lines. The good news seems to be that lots of people are
voting in this midterm.
