Thoughts
The weatherman
says to expect 1”-4” of the white stuff tonight. I’ll wait and see. Not
expecting that much.
I tried out my
new indoor smokeless grill last night. I grilled an excellent seasoned chicken
breast and the air-fryer French Fries were delicious. Clean up was very easy.
Yeah. Next time it’s steak & shrimp to try out.
I have talked
about how BIA schools remain open during the shutdown. However, even that is
not the whole story. The other parts of the BIA are closed due to the shutdown.
That means the 2000 miles of paved rez roads and the 6000 miles of non-paved rez
roads are not being maintained. Hello! It’s
winter and there is SNOW, that melts and turns dirt roads into mud bogs. At
Tonalea, even without the shutdown, when it snowed our drivers started out at
5a picking up students because the roads were frozen. I remember days that we
had to dismiss at noon, because as the snow melted, the roads became impassible
by our normal 3:15 dismissal. Since, during this shutdown, schools are closing
early because there is no road maintenance. Therefore they are not getting a
full day of education.
So sad to see the
destruction taking place at various National Parks and Monuments by visitors
who are showing no respect to their land. And no Federal employees there to
stop it. The shutdown is a disgrace.
