A
very chilly morning. I headed out around nine to finish my Christmas shopping
before I leave for Mexico on Saturday. Happy to say I’m all finished.
We
are still awaiting ballot results from the mid-terms and now someone announces he
is running for President in 2024. I have to say that if his speech had more
truth in in, I would wonder why not to vote for him. His explanation of his
term do not match my memories of those dark days.
My
Physician order a new script for me from Caremark. The price is ½ that of
Walgreens. Anyway, I got a notice that it would be delivered on Saturday. I
took about 15 minutes on the internet, then a phone call to have UPS hold it at
their facility in Flag, since it was to arrive Saturday afternoon. On top of
that it costs $7.99 for UPS to hold a package. I paid the fee only to learn it
would only be held 5 days. I think the call straightened it out.
Even
better news, my replacement crown came in early; I will get it put on this Friday
at 8am. Better than waiting for sure.

Little
known Native American History
The phrase
"Indian giver" has long been used as a derogatory term to describe a
person who gives a gift, then takes it away. The implication is that gifts from
Native Americans can't be trusted because you might be asked to return them.
The reality was, in fact, far more complicated, largely due to cultural
barriers. White settlers came from a tradition of using money to make
purchases, while Native American tribes largely relied on systems of bartering,
which meant the objects they were offering weren't actually gifts, but rather
objects of value for which they understandably expected to receive something
equivalent in return. You still wouldn't want to call someone an "Indian
giver," but on the other hand, these 11 old insults have turned into
compliments.

“Copacetic” is often considered to originate from the African American community in the U.S., popularized by famous tap dancer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. Others claim it instead has roots in Yiddish, French, Latin, and Italian phrases. Its origin is ultimately unknown, having been traced back only as far as a 1919 biography of Abraham Lincoln, but it has managed to endure to the modern day.
