Free Rambling Thoughts
We had our weekly lunch early this week. Mary has a CASA meeting tomorrow. We went to a nice place in west Flag and had a great lunch...we even broke down and ordered dessert which is pretty unusual…and we all took about ½ of our dessert home for another meal. Mary is headed to Chicago to see two of her grandkids…and she is taking a quilt she just finished. It is cool…and she is so proud that she followed the instructions without changing anything. She is really creative and sometimes her creativity doesn’t work out that well. Cheryl has been having trouble with her new glasses, so I suggested she take them to our mutual ophthalmologist to be sure the lenses are the right prescription. My guess is the glasses people made a mistake…just like they did with me a few years ago.

It clouded up, but alas no rain, no breeze, and no quick cool down…it doesn’t happen very often during Monsoon season, but when it does, it is miserable. I’m still holding out for a breeze, after the sun sets. If it doesn’t come, it’s going to be hard to sleep tonight.

Ah…AZ is back in the news. As Obama’s Executive Order that starts today--to allow certain young illegal immigrants a chance to get Federal ID, our Governor, not to be outdone by the President of the United States, issued her own Executive Order that prevents those same youth from getting a driver’s license, or state ID, or any taxpayer funded benefits. So now many immigration lawyers here in AZ are educating these youth on the potential dangers of applying. Whatever happened to ‘one Nation with liberty and justice for all’. Of course, this is only a small part of the conservative trends in this country. PA just passed a stricter voter ID law that will disenfranchise many older voters. While the state admitted that there is no proof of in person voter fraud in PA, a judge ruled that the law stands…just in case. He didn’t seemed worried about the number of older Americans who might not be able to vote.

Yeah, It Really Happened
CHICAGO - A Chicago-area man put the windshield of his car up for auction because it has a bird dropping he says looks like the late pop star Michael Jackson.
"One of two things will happen," said owner Brandon Tudor, an Oswego salesman and father of three. "It will go for an astronomical amount or I'll get nothing."
Tudor, 29, said he was driving along U.S. Highway 30 near Big Rock Wednesday when bird poop hit the windshield of his 1996 Cadillac Seville, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. He said he immediately saw a resemblance to the pop icon and it became more obvious "after it hardened."
"Everybody loves it," Tudor said. "There's not one person who's seen it that doesn't agree it looks like Michael Jackson." The minimum starting bid for the windshield is set at $500 on eBay. Until the auction closes, Tudor is keeping the bird poop image covered in plastic to protect it from washing away and parking his car in a garage.
Somewhat Useless Information
  • Cereal was invented when colonial housewives started serving up popcorn with sugar and cream for breakfast.
  • The word cereal comes from Cerealia, the name of ancient Roman ceremonies that honored Ceres, the goddess of grain.
  • The first ready-to-eat breakfast cereal was invented in 1863 by James C. Jackson. It was a form of whole grain flour dough baked into dry leaves, broken into chunks and baked again, and then ground into still smaller chunks.
  • U.S. and Israeli researchers have just found strong evidence that humans refined wheat and barley into cereal 23,000 years ago. If true, the discovery suggests humans were processing grains long before hunter-gather societies developed agriculture.
  • Breakfast cereal is the third most popular item sold in grocery stores after carbonated beverages and milk.
  • Astronauts from Apollo 11 boosted their brain power while in space with a cereal breakfast. The cereal was mixed with fruit and pressed into cubes since the lack of gravity kept the astronauts from pouring it into a bowl with milk.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
