Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
Nice winter day as I await the Sunday storm.
Yesterday
was busy. I had my first podiatrist appointment. ‘Due to my age’ my
PCP said it would be a good idea to visit a podiatrist. I got there 15 minutes early,
as directed, to fill out paperwork. Then I had to wait 30 more minutes to see
her. She was nice. She took x-rays of each foot. I have the beginnings of arthritis
in one foot. She suggested I use more lotion on my feet to stop dryness. She
said to come back if I develop any pain.
OK…thanks.
I
headed out for weekly grocery shopping this morning. I got what I needed and
checked out. Good trip.
Another
‘high altitude object’ found over Alaska. Biden orders downing of object. It is
smaller than the last Chinese ‘weather’ balloon. More to come.

state of the union address, George Santos stood up and yelled ‘Over here!’
Sorry
to hear of the passing at 94 of Burt Bacharach. He sure gave my generation some
great music.
Trust
in the system…while George Santos is investigated by DOJ and others for his
alleged lies; he continues to serve. My questions: Why is he able to hold
office and vote on bills while he is investigated? If he is found guilty and
kicked out of Congress are his votes during this time cancelled?

1963’s
“Cleopatra” Is One of the Most Expensive Hollywood Films of All Time
The life of Cleopatra (or rather Rome’s colorful version of it) has inspired works of art for centuries — not the least of which was William Shakespeare’s tragedy Antony and Cleopatra, written around 1606. However, the most grandiose retelling of Cleopatra’s life, and one that had a profound impact on her legacy, is the 1963 film Cleopatra. Starring Elizabeth Taylor in the titular role (and also continuing the “beautiful seductress” trope), the film was originally budgeted at $2 million, but costs ballooned to an unprecedented (at the time) $44 million — about $430 million today. Although it was the biggest hit in theaters that year, the outsized cost of the film still made it a financial disaster for Twentieth Century Fox. The film’s failure also put to the sword any other future historical epics on a similar scale.
