Thoughts for the day

Another nice winter day.  Lots of sunshine

Our Great Decisions discussion was outstanding. The new world order may be Global East (Russia/China), Global West (US Europe) Global South (Brazil, South America, India and others). There are many changes ahead. The US seems to want to use a chainsaw, while Russia wants to use guns, and others want a slower, more peaceful way to the new world order. Another thing we discussed was the need for consistency during any transition. Without a clear consistency, there seems to be chaos at every level.

Fareed Zakaria made on interesting point this morning on his GPS program: Just because you don’t agree with a government program does not automatically mean that it is fraud. Our democracy has 3 separate bodies to run the government and there are legal and legitimate paths to ending a program that the people don’t agree with.

Forgotten American Heros…

Louis Sockalexis from Penobscot Indian Island Reservation

Louis Sockalexis was the first Native American to play professional baseball, paving the way for future athletes. Playing in the late 19th century, Sockalexis faced significant prejudice but remained undeterred.

His talent and perseverance on the field earned him admiration and respect from fans and fellow players alike.

Sockalexis’ impact extends beyond his pioneering presence in baseball; he broke barriers and challenged stereotypes. His legacy inspires athletes from all backgrounds, illustrating the importance of resilience and determination in overcoming obstacles.

Common Misconceptions…

“Most Americans celebrate Christopher Columbus as the person who discovered America, yet Vikings came to North American shores hundreds of years before he did. Not to mention that he should not be celebrated at all, he slaughtered thousands of native Americans and/or was directly responsible for thousands of deaths.”

**
“I’d call it a tie for gaslighting more than misconception, but luddites and rednecks were not backwards people, they were labor movements, and ‘entitled’ did not mean ’spoiled’… The Luddites were a labor movement in the textile industry protesting unsafe working conditions and unfair wages/employment risks often done by skilled equipment operators who were willing to sabotage the factory equipment as a way of sticking it to the company. Similarly, rednecks were a group/union of miners--not just white people either, it included black and immigrants too--who stood up to the monopolistic grip on the Appalachian region of a mining company and fought a private mercenary army of about 2000 people and even got bombed by planes during a major battle.”

Random Thoughts…

Bar code readers don’t read the black lines; they read the white spaces in between.

The Walt Disney World Railroad has become one of the world’s busiest steam-powered railroads, with 3.7 million passengers served each year.

People waste their time wishing they had more time.

New York City Drivers spend an average of 107 hours a year searching for parking spots.

If you think highly of someone, tell them.
