MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
It was a windy day, so I cleaned up around the house. It’s nice to have a clean-er home. I watched a movie—an action packed escape reality one. Then Public TV ran a Celtic Thunder fund raiser. Those Irish boys can sure sing. Of course, there were way too many pledge drives during the concert, but I did get to learn a lot from the two boys from the group who were in Phx for the drive. I have several Celtic Thunder songs on my I-pod. They do a great performance. I like the ‘military’ type songs for they are great for walks. Thank you PBS for introducing me to them. I always look forward to the Celtic Woman specials. For so many years I watched the PP&M specials.
So now we are shooting in Libya. France and the UK are doing the same. The news talks about how these missiles are being aimed at military targets from up to 500 miles away. I hadn’t watched the news all day so seeing the missiles was quite a shock. It doesn’t matter to me which countries are firing, innocents are dying. I know that Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi (معمر القذافي Muʿammar al-Qaḏḏāfī ) has been in power since I was a sophomore in college (1969).
Side note: At CU we had International Affairs Week, where many classes were cancelled and we were ‘assigned’ to attend seminars on what was happening in the world. The King was deposed by a coup and a man from the Libyan embassy spoke to us at one of the seminars. Back then, the belief or at least the public talking point was that the coup had been a good thing. After years of being under European control, the King was seen as a figurehead of the Europeans. The coup let them be led by the people. Over the years, it didn’t work out that way.
So don’t people understand that people, civilians and military, are manning the sites that we are bombing? In order to have a no-fly zone, military air fields have to be destroyed. Every military air field in the US has military and civilian workers and their families on site. I doubt that Libya is any different. This is a very frightening situation. It is so hard to understand the deaths—even for the greater good.
This is a coalition attack, but President Obama authorized the use of our military. I don’t think that many Obama supporters ever expected this to happen. I voted to get the US out of Afghanistan and Iraq. I did not vote to have us move into another country that had not attacked us. The leader of Libya is crazy, a despot, and is killing his own people. Now we are in a third war—military action and more Americans and others are going to die.
The super-moon, the worm moon does seem to be bigger in the sky. There is a slight haze around the moon, but as usual, in our dark sky city, it is very impressive. _____________________________________________________
DID YOU KNOW THAT…
>Unless you are baking cakes and cookies, there really is no need to wait for the oven to preheat and come to temperature. Casseroles, meatloaves and like that need an hour or more of cooking time can be popped right in, saving you time and energy. And turn off the oven 10 minutes before the food is finished--the residual heat will get the job done!
>Rub your shower curtain with the juice of one lemon. Lemon's natural disinfectant stops mildew growth and eliminates odors.
>An economical way to keep a cat's litter box fresh is to shred or tear newspapers and mix them with baking soda. Place them in the litter box and change often.
>To get cat hairs off furniture, rub the affected areas with a damp sponge.
SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION…
>It is against the law in France to sell a doll with a face that is not human.
>It is illegal for a cab in London to carry rabid dogs or corpses.
