Trivia
The Russian State Library in Moscow is the
largest library in Europe and the 2nd largest library in the world, after the Library of Congress. In 1917,
the monarchy system of Russia was overthrown and a civil war between
monarchists and communists under the rule of Vladimir Lenin ensued. In 1922,
Lenin succeeded in winning the civil war and established the Soviet Union,
the first communist country in the world. |
My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
A nice fall day…sunshine is the best. I waited
over 3 months for a CPAP phone appointment after I got a recall notice on my
rented CPAP machine. Finally, I got the calls today. The first was to verify
my health records, the 2nd from the doctor that would do the sleep
study. After studying my usage and data from the machine, she said I’m doing
exceedingly well and don’t need another sleep study. She will put in an order
for a new machine, since it is 5 years old. They will call again in 6 months
to see if there are any changes. Why did it take so long? Covid issues in
getting and keeping staff. As I’m
doing my Christmas shopping, I am recalling how Flagstaff has changed since I
started visiting here on weekends in 1971. Back then there was one K-Mart, no
mall, downtown stores for shopping, Over the years Flag got small mall, more
stores on the east and west side. There used to be Walden’s Books, then came
Barnes & Noble. Walden’s left years ago and now B&N is closing after losing
their lease to Goodwill and can’t find another location. BB&B left during
the pandemic. Many of the mall stores have left. Office Max can no longer pay
the high rental near the mall, so Staples on the west side is the only office
supply place. We still have 2 Walmart’s and a Sam’s. We have gone from 5
movie theaters around town, to one multiplex near the mall. I’m not sure I am
happy with all these changes. |
