Random Tidbits

President Lyndon B. Johnson conducted White House meetings on the toilet

The former president actually had a telephone installed in the bathroom so he could take calls while using the restroom. He conducted meetings with aides while sitting on the toilet because of his insistence on keeping the conversation going. While the president considered his odd methods productive, many of his aides struggled to hear him speak due to running water.

My Rambling Thoughts

Another warm day...doors and windows open so I get a nice breeze.

Sad news from Tuba. A colleague, Norman, who taught me most of what I know about computers and the internet lost his middle daughter to cancer back in March. After he retired we kinda lost touch. He's been in Tucson for most of the year caring for his daughter and staying with his ex. I just got his number so will call a little later.

There is some backlash over the city's vehicle graduation last week. Turns out they have turned down all 'large crowd gatherings' through the summer, but let this one happen. Lots of people were on the street, with and without masks, during the parade. The council did not give permits for the Farmer's Market or the 4th of July parade. The Farmer's Market is especially miffed, since they provide food to the community.

To add to AZ troubles, the Phoenix area had one of its famous dust storms over the weekend, where there was zero visibility in many area, including I-17 and I-10. And our 'great' governor clarified the curfew. It has so many exceptions, it basically is stopping large (more than 10) people gathering from 8pm to 5am this week. A strange curfew order for sure. Besides, all of the state has to follow but only the Phoenix area is having problems. Williams and Holbrook governments have said they have no problems and will not follow the curfew as long as there are no problems. It gives us all another understanding of the protests...being punished when you did nothing wrong.

In the good news, I saw several city's video where officers blocking the protesters actually either took a knee with them or talked to and then hugged protesters. Nice to see the humanity in all this chaos.

Today’s Puzzle

Answer at the bottom of the page

A wealthy woman goes into a bank to ask for a $10,000 loan before her month long vacation. The bank had no problem loaning the money as long as the woman would put up some collateral. So the woman offers to let them hold on to her $200,000 luxury automobile.

The bank happily agrees, loans the woman $10,000 and takes possession of the vehicle. Upon returning from vacation the woman goes back to the bank to repay the loan and collect her vehicle. The bank manager laughs and ask the woman why if she is so rich did she go through so much trouble.

What was the woman’s reply to bank manager?

The small amount of interest on the loan was much less than parking and insurance for the vehicle would have cost.
