Rambling Thoughts

Snow flurries in Flag today followed by rain. Strange fall indeed.
The flurries were nice to see. None of it stayed after hitting the ground. Last
night did do a number on everyone’s colorful flowers. Summer is gone for sure.
We are told we’ll be back up to our normal high 60’s in a couple of days. Nice!
I stayed up way late last night watching movies, so today was a
very lazy day. No errands, just stayed home. I enjoy these kind of days every
once in a while.
Occupy Flagstaff had a good rally last night, according to my
friends who went to it. My favorite sign of the night: You know things are
messed up when Librarians start marching. More to come.

- Porcupines have strong feet, curved claws and flat paws for climbing trees. Some also use their strong tail to climb trees. Porcupines refer to live in shady places such as forests, hillsides, grasslands and deserts. Their homes are called dens.
- Porcupines feed mostly on leaves, pine-needles, herbs, twigs and the thin bark of trees. They use their sharp and strong teeth to chew through tough wood and seeds.
- Porcupines are famous for the stiff, thick quills which cover their body, except for their face and tail. Quills lost in self defense are soon replaced by new ones.
- The end of summer or early fall is the mating season for porcupines. Babies known as porcupettes are born with soft quills, which get hard within hours. In about six months the baby gets ready to leave their mother after they learn how to survive.
- Old World porcupines are mainly ground-dwelling animals and New World porcupines are those who can climb trees. The common porcupine is also known as the North American porcupine which is found in wooded regions from Alaska to Mexico.
- In the past Native Americans used quills to decorate clothing, moccasins, headdress, birch bark boxes and pouches.

.
Terrified passengers aboard a bus in China’s Hunan province begged
their driver to stop after the rear wheels fell off. Driver Shi Shao, 48, told
police in Shaoyang he thought he’d just hit a pothole and continued on, even
though the passengers saw the rear axle behind them in the road and could feel
the floor of the vehicle becoming hot from scraping along the road. “The
potholes around here are bad,” one passenger said, “but nothing could be that
bad.” (China’s Global Times)

Two drunks were in a bar partying like fools. They were drinking
boiler makers, buying rounds like there was no tomorrow. They were dancing,
calling each other "professor," and generally causing quite a stir.
When asked why such a celebration, they boasted that they just finished a
jigsaw puzzle & it only took them 2 months! "TWO MONTHS?!" cried
the bartender. "That's ridiculous. It shouldn't take that long!!"
