A
nice monsoon last night, more expected today. It is getting very late locally
for the monsoon to continue, but the main monsoon started very late.
When
I turned NPR on this morning, I was saddened to hear that Jimmy Buffet had
passed peacefully at 76 and former Governor (NM) Bill Richardson had passed at
75. Buffet’s music will remain popular for a long time into the future. Gov. Richardson
will be remembered for his amazing ability to negotiate…especially with our
foes in the release of hostages.
Seriously,
this is happening: A Trump PAC has been raising money to help him with his
legal woes. He has not been offering that money to any of his co-defendants, possibly
for fear that a conviction of one of his fellow defendants would not help him
in his campaign. Just like the sun always rises in the East, Trump has changed
his mind. He is supporting a fund-raising event for his ‘friend’ Rudy. It is
being held at Mara Lago. The dinner is $100,000/plate with proceeds going to
Rudy. Hmmm
“One
just can’t win“…Biden was criticized for not going to Maui after the fire
sooner…now those same people are criticizing him for going to Florida too soon after
the recent hurricane. It sure sounds hypocritical to me.
About
10 years ago my former colleague and friend gave me a beautiful hanging plant.
I transplanted it several times. Today I realized it was not going to survive…and
the leaves were all turning brown and wilting. I went to Home Depot and bought another
one. I will miss the old one, when it
was healthy.

Ellis Island
Sitting in its grand location in New York Harbor, Ellis Island,
along with its resplendent neighbor, the Statue of Liberty, has long been a
symbol of hope and freedom. More than 12 million immigrants entered the country
through the Ellis Island gateway from 1892 to 1954, and currently almost half
of all Americans claim ancestors who passed through its gates. In the 1980s,
the building on Ellis Island was renovated and reopened as a museum.
Random Trivia…
Before the 19th century, dentures were made from dead soldiers’
teeth. After the Battle of Waterloo, dentists ran to the battlefield to seek
out teeth from the thousands of dead soldiers. They then took their bounty to
their dental practices and crafted them into dentures for the toothless elite.
