Thoughts for the day

First day of the new year is a nice winter day.

In 2024 Red Rocks Amphitheater was the most attended in the world and the most attended outdoor venue in the US. Cool.

At least 15 and 30+ injured by terrorist on Bourbon Street. He drove a truck into the crowd. The vehicle had IUD’s in the truck along with an ISIS flag. The Sugar Bowl game within walking distance of the tragedy is also postponed 24 hours.

I’m looking forward to a great 2025. Hopefully with some travel.

Inventions…

James Edward Hanger - Modern Prosthetic Limb

After losing his leg in the Civil War, James Edward Hanger designed the first articulated prosthetic leg in America. His invention featured joint-like parts that could bend at the knee and ankle, making it more comfortable and natural-looking than the wooden pegs of the time. Hanger started a company to produce his prosthetic limbs, which still exists today as Hanger, Inc. His innovations changed the lives of amputees and set new standards for prosthetic design.

Random Thoughts…

If people listened to themselves more often, they’d talk less.

The final explosion from Krakatoa measured 310 dB, loud enough to be heard perfectly clearly 3,100 miles away.

The biggest film of 1991: Beauty and the Beast (Musical) earned ~ $219,000,000

Stan Lee’s use of alliterative names in his comics (e.g., Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, Matt Murdock, etc.) was due to his poor memory. He thought that using names that started with the same letter would help him remember the character’s whole name.

The first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise restaurant was opened in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1952.

Quirky town names…

Zigzag, Oregon

Named after the Zigzag River, which flows through the Cascade Mountains, the name describes the river’s winding path. The quirky moniker adds to the charm of this picturesque area.
