My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

A little cooler today with a little less wind than yesterday.

When abortion became illegal in some states, the DOD allowed travel for service members and families who needed to travel for an abortion. Now two Republicans are holding up the approval of 60+ military promotions until DOD changes their decision. This is affecting military readiness. Crazy.

Moon Facts…

It’s younger than we thought

While we know that the Moon is actually a section of broken Earth that formed during a collision billions of years ago, this happened later than scientists once thought. In 2020, researchers at the German Aerospace Center and the University of Münster calculated that the Moon is actually 85 million years younger than previous estimates. Computer simulations suggest the Moon formed about 4.425 billion years ago, and took 150 to 200 million years to crystallize from its magma form after it broke off from Earth.

Georgia

Despite America’s quest for independence from the British, the influence of English royalty can still be felt stateside, as evidenced by Georgia’s name. British philanthropist James Oglethorpe sought to create a U.S. colony where the debt-ridden people of England could get back on their feet and take ownership over their lives. During these efforts, he named the state after King George II for the king’s role in granting the charter that made his vision possible. Though Oglethorpe’s social-reform brainchild didn’t pan out as he hoped, Georgia still blossomed into a state that perfectly encapsulates all that the American southeast has to offer, from its rich history to scenic beauty.
