 Today’s Birthdays:
How many can you identify?…answers in Today’s Birthdays

My Free Rambling Thoughts
When the seasons change Flag is hit with wind, N. AZ is hit with wind. So, right on time, big wind is here for a few more days. Both interstates have a high wind advisory for high profile vehicles. All this high wind means that there are pine cones flying though the air and landing on my deck in my formerly clean back area. Along with the pine cones are pine needles, mostly brown, but some clumps of very green ones. This is one of the few times each year that I am glad our complex uses dumpsters instead of plastic trash cans at every unit. The wind has all been happening for centuries, and I’m sure will continue for centuries to come, so we just make sure our outdoor furniture is tied down and we just live with the wind.

I have become a fan of CNN’s Crossfire. Every afternoon for 30 minutes there are some good discussion points on a current topic. Both sides usually have very knowledgeable speakers who see the facts in their own way, but the best part is that, at the end of each session, the moderator’s review the point or points that both sides agree. Worth a watch.

Unusual Fact of the Day
Using an orange-handled coffee pot to denote decaffeinated brew dates back to 1923, when General Foods first introduced Sanka. As a promotional gimmick, they provided restaurants and diners with orange-y pots that matched the orange packaging of their decaf coffee.
Joke-of-the-day
His pediatrician asked six-year-old Johnny, who watched a good many TV, adds, just to make conversation. Johnny, if you found a couple of dollars and had to spend them, what would you buy?”
“A box of Tampax,” he replied without hesitation.
“Tampax?” said the doctor. “What would you do with that?”
“Well,” said Johnny, “I do not know exactly, but it’s sure worth two dollars.
With tampax, it says on TV, you can go swimming, go horseback riding, and also go skating, any time you want to.”

Yeah, It Really Happened
SINKING SPRING, Pa. - A Pennsylvania Halloween park is challenging visitors to pass through a haunted house in the nude for the "Naked and Scared" challenge. The Shocktoberfest attraction in Sinking Spring said guests can pay $20 after midnight, once the park's regular hours have ended, to pass through the haunted house for a challenge inspired by the Discovery Channel's "Naked and Afraid" reality show, WKYC-TV, Cleveland, reported Monday. The park said participants can go either "nude" or "prude," an option to leave one's underwear on during the challenge. Officials said only guests over the age of 18 will be allowed to participate and they will undress in a "semi-private preshow building" to keep them out of view of minors and non-participating customers. The park's website said the attraction is not meant to be sexual and "no sexual misconduct, inappropriate or disrespectful behavior will be tolerated."
Somewhat Useless Information
Developing dangerous blood clots. Compared to shorter control groups, taller people are more likely to develop potentially life-threatening blood clots in the deep veins of their legs and other body parts, report researchers in Norway. In particular, the risk is heightened among men and women who are tall and obese. While deep vein blood clots are common among tall folk, the risk of cardiovascular disease in general is greater among short people. In fact, a systematic review of 52 studies found that shorter men and women are approximately 1.5 times more likely to develop symptoms and die from cardiovascular disease than taller people.
Earning more money. On the upside, taller men may earn more money on average than shorter men, according to research conducted in Australia. It may be that shorter men experience discrimination in response to their stature, suggest the authors, while taller men may enjoy a boost in social status.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
