My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
There was an
early morning rain and another one around noon, now just sitting here on a
cloudy day waiting for more rain.
I’ve been
having some intestinal issues for about 2 weeks. I got tired of it, so went to
see the doctor. Nothing serious, just accept that I’m old-er and need more bulk
in my diet. He checked for a hernia and said there was nothing apparent. I hope
his plan works. He did prescribe some strong ibuprofen for any pain if Tylenol doesn’t
work enough.
Is Biden
going to run again. He says he hasn’t decided as it is too early. I can’t
believe he should run again at his age. He’s 79 right now, would be 81 while
running and 85 at the end of his second term. He should enjoy his time with his
family and friends. If he waits too long and decided not to run, it will be
hard for Dems to get a viable candidate. It is his choice, so I guess we just
wait.
Puerto Rico
is suffering from huge rains, flooding from Hurricane Fiona. Dollar damage is
worse today than the hurricane of 5 years ago. Watching a bridge built after
the last hurricane slide into the river was horrifying.
The Florida
taxpayers also paid for a cute little brochure about how great Massachusetts
is. It also suggested jobs, money, and
housing for the migrants. Many of the suggestions were…to be kind…exaggerations.
Also, many of the 50 migrants thought they were going to Boston, not Martha’s
Vineyard. It looks like several investigations will determine if that is
criminal.

People often
think of American lagers or Belgian ales when they think of beer, but there are
many types of beer, such as sorghum-based African opaque beer, Japanese sake
(which is not wine, but a rice beer), Russian kvass made from bread, and
corn-based South American chicha.
You can go
swimming in a pool of beer at the Schloss Starkenberger brewery in Tarrentz,
Austria. The sudsy bath is said to promote healthy skin.

Manhattan was sold for $24
In the 17th century, Indigenous peoples
used beaver pelts to purchase goods, such as metal and cloth, from Dutch
settlers. It’s also believed that, in 1626, the island of Manhattan was traded
for $24 worth of beads and trinkets! In effect, a letter states that a man
named Peter Minuit paid 60 guilders for it. Many question this document’s
authenticity, however, and the accuracy of the sale price, equivalent to about
$1,000 today.
