Thoughts for the day

A nice warm day.

I watched Good Night and Good Luck last night on CNN. It was a live play of the times around Edward R. Murrow during the McCarthy era. I’m a tad too young to remember those days, but I certainly remember studying them in school. It certainly was a good reminder of the courage in journalism by CBS, its reporters and its owners. I certainly hope that today’s journalists and news organizations have that same courage in today’s world.

Abrego Garcia is back in the US. This whole mess is about the constitutional right of Due Process. He may well be guilty of crimes, and he should pay for those crimes. It is about giving him his day in court to address the charges.

I always thought that the National Guard had to be asked for by the local, usually governor or mayor, authorities before the National Guard could be called in. Trump seems to have missed that lesson. The locals said they had everything under control. This seems more political theater than constitutional.

Historic Figures who never existed…

Pythagoras©Cmick25 on Wikimedia

If the name sounds familiar, it's probably because you've remembered it from the Pythagorean Theorem in your mathematics class. Yet, while Pythagoras was the mythical figure who popularized the formula, some believe that it existed even before him—if he even existed at all. There is very little that's known of him, and it's suspected that the mathematical proofs of his theorem were written by his followers. Even his appearance may be completely fictitious.
