Thoughts for the day

A very nice Easter Sunday. Visiting friends later this afternoon.

There were over 1000 people at yesterday’s rally to stop the King. More people would have been nice. This is so different than the college protests of the early 1970’s…people are happy, no police presence. People who believe America is better than what is happening currently.

Our discussion group was excellent. When I started my graduate work, I learned about the difference between the melting pot and the salad bowl idea regarding culture. It made sense to me then and still does. Allowing every group to still be identified in the salad bowl rather than just melting into a grey slop seemed something to work for. After our discussion yesterday, I realized that there are people who still want the melting pot concept with every bone in their body. Many on the right simply want complete assimilation with no remnants of their first culture there. I can’t accept that this is best for our country. I am now more understanding about the fear they have that have…unless we are a grey slop, we must fear that some minorities will attempt to take away the power the Whites have.

Ancient Civilizations Few Have Heard Of…

The Kingdom Of Kush: Sudan ©Vit Hassan on Wikimedia

To the south of Egypt, Kush was the land of formidable pharaohs who governed both Egypt and Nubia. They built towering pyramids and created one of the most powerful empires in Africa. Ever heard of the "Kushite Dynasty"? These rulers left a lasting legacy in Egypt.

Random Thoughts…

·         Oscar Wilde – Real Name: Sebastian Melmoth

·         Scientists still aren’t completely sure how acetaminophen works.

·         No one ever reads instruction manuals, but everyone watches YouTube how-to videos. We were all just waiting for the movie.

·         Human settlement of Mars will necessitate the creation of a parallel 24.7-hour clock and 687-day calendar.

·         50% of Canada is the letter A.

Taught in High School but not true…

Dinosaurs looked like big lizards

I’ve questioned this one since I first learned about fossils, and still annoyingly comment on documentaries about species that have been extinct since long before mankind came to study them. How do we know the T. rex didn’t rock a mullet? Well, discoveries have shown that many dinosaurs had feathers, not just lizard-like skin. I’m sticking with my mullet theory until proven otherwise.
