The American Dietetic Association (ADA)
concludes that a vegetarian or vegan diet is healthier than one that includes
meat. They note that vegetarians have lower body mass indices, lower rates of
death from heart disease, lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure,
lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and less prostate and colon
cancer.
There are several types
of vegetarians. The strictest type is vegans. Vegans avoid not only meat but
also all animal products. There is a debate within the vegan community about
whether honey is appropriate for a vegan diet. For example, the Vegan Society and
the American Vegan Society do not consider honey appropriate because it comes
from an animal.
A fruitarian is a type of
vegetarian in which a person eats just fruits, nuts, seeds, and other plant
material that can be harvested without killing the plant.

My Rambling Thoughts
Awaiting another nice monsoon. Yesterday’s was extremely
enjoyable.
Thankfully the Sunday news programs didn’t limit their
‘news’ to Covid. While it is good to keep up on Covid, other things are
happening.
It is hard for me to understand what the Federal
agents are doing in Portland. Using military force, with no identification, to
pick up protesters and haul them off in unmarked vehicles seems more like a
dictatorship than America. I know they are released but still.
My HS graduation from WRHS has been having annual
picnics since our 5-year anniversary. This year is no different, except that
attendees must sign a waiver and it is not a potluck…it is ‘bring your own
everything’. It is scheduled for Aug. 1. Seems a tad crazy to me.
There are two TV shows I highly recommend. The first,
on ABC is What Would You Do? It sets up today’s issues in various public
settings. The actors do a short scene and they see how people react to the
situation. Kinda like Candid Camera. It should be on most
cable/satellite providers under ABC on Demand. The second one resumes tonight: United
Shades of America on CNN. Last season was great!
