My Free
Rambling Thoughts
Another very warm day here in Flag. Last night I was awakened by a loud noise. Turns out my office door had blown shut by the high winds. Of course, that was not my first thought at 3:15am.I talked to the corporate guy today about my investments. He claims to have been blindsided by my advisor’s sudden retirement. I let him know that I hoped they would have a search for a local branch manager. We’ll see if that happens. He also said that it will ‘take some time’ for the guy I’m assigned to to get the records…since they don’t just automatically release my records to one of their agents. Sounds like this will take quite a little while. Strange, since if he is my financial advisor, he will be getting any fees associated with my accounts. I have learned a little about ‘book’ which is the listings of all the clients that is usually bought and sold when one agent leaves a company. That doesn’t seem to have happened. Somebody very high up in the company made the decision to end the relationship with my former financial advisor and decided not to do it in the normal way. So the waiting game continues.Just heard about a tactic used in several wars taking place around the world…not always involving the US. It seems that many ‘enemies’ have surface to air missiles that can shoot down planes. The answer: planes land in airports Afghanistan and Mali and other places in what is called a ‘corkscrew’ manner. Sure hope I never have to fly on a plane that lands that way.Today’s headline in our local paper shows that sometimes justice prevails. Our former carpetbagger US Rep, Rick Renzi, was convicted of a bunch of charges. Many of us in District 1 knew he was a sleeze when he arrived on our local political scene and claimed Flagstaff residency when none of the locals knew him. Of course he will appeal the convictions which have been around for corruption since 2008, when he decided after being indicted not to run for a third term. Glad he was found guilty.

Brain Teasers
Mice are famous for their ability to multiply at breakneck speeds. You pick up a baby mouse from the pet store the day after it was born. The type of mouse you bought gives birth once a month, birthing 12 babies each time. Baby mice mature and can give birth two months after they are born. 12 months after it is born, the mouse will die.In 10 months from now, how many mice will you have?

Remember, it's a trick. There aren't any difficult calculations in this.

Unusual Fact of the Day
Most people know that "Video Killed the Radio Star" was MTV's first video, but do you know the second video to air? It was Pat Benetar's "You Better Run."Joke-of-the-day
Farmer picks up an American Indian hitch hiking. The Indian is a man of few words but eventually looks at the brown paper bag in between them and asks, "Mmm, What in bag?"The farmer says, "It's a bottle of wine that I got for my wife".Indian thinks for a second and say, "Mmm, good trade".

Yeah, It Really Happened
SEATTLE - A woman living in the Seattle area who is seeking to prove humans can live without food set up cameras around her home to prove she isn't eating. Naveena Shine, 65, an England native, said she has been subsisting since May 3 on a strict diet of water and tea with just a small amount of milk, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported Monday."Well, the intention of what I'm doing is I want to provide evidence that it is possible, should it be possible, that human beings can live and thrive and do really well without having to eat solid food," Shine said. "This will literally save the Earth." Shine said the cameras she set up in every room of her home record her actions 24 hours a day to prove she has not been eating and she takes a portable camera when she goes out. "There's got to be a point that's a shift-over point, you either go into starvation and death or you go into finding the place within and without that creates living on light," Shine said.Dr. Rich Lindquist of Swedish Hospital said Shine may be able to make it up to three months on tea and water alone. "People can live for extended periods of time, but people need food in order to live," he said. "Long term, over time, if you don't eat, you die." Shine said she will stop her experiment if she starts to believe her health is in danger.
Somewhat Useless Information
- In 1970, Americans spent about $6 billion on fast food. In 2006, the spending rose to nearly $142 billion. It is not surprising that every month, approximately nine out of 10 American children visit a McDonald's restaurant.
- McDonald's is the largest purchaser of beef, pork, and potatoes and the second largest purchaser of chicken in the world. Its annual orders for french fries constitute 7.5 percent of America's entire potato crop.
- Due to anti-German sentiment during WWI, an alternative name for a hamburger (which was derived from the Hamburg steak sandwiches eaten on immigrant ships between Hamburg, Germany, and America in the 1800s) was "salisbury steak." It was named after Dr. Salisbury who prescribed ground beef for patients suffering from anemia, asthma, and other illnesses.

many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events
