Random Tidbits
Developing dangerous blood clots.
Compared to shorter control groups, taller people are more likely to develop
potentially life-threatening blood clots in the deep veins of their legs and
other body parts, report researchers in Norway. In particular, the risk is
heightened among men and women who are tall and obese.
While deep
vein blood clots are common among tall folk, the risk of cardiovascular disease
in general is greater among short people. In fact, a systematic review of 52
studies found that shorter men and women are approximately 1.5 times more
likely to develop symptoms and die from cardiovascular disease than taller
people.

like at Hooters. Do they just give you a bra and say, "Here, fill this
out?"
True Things
Anyone
educated in today’s school system knows that the lowest grade you can get is an
F. The low-water mark, however, used to be represented by the letter E. When
Mount Holyoke College administrators redesigned the grading system in 1898, professors
worried that students would think the grade meant “excellent. According
to Slate, F more obviously stands for “failure” or “failed.”

My Rambling Thoughts
Our
discussion group changed and is meeting at 2p so this will get posted after the
meeting. It is nice to get back into this discussion group. Outside, in masks,
but finally a discussion. My financial advisor introduced me to the group over
a decade ago.
My
financial manager/friend retired about 6 years ago and married another
financial manager who had lost his wife. His kids weren’t happy. The newly weds
were. Then she discovered that he had Alzheimer’s. Before being diagnosed, he
had failed to pay Federal Income tax for several years. Then he made some bad
business decisions. Her hope for a nice marriage, travel, and enjoyment quickly
disappeared. Last month he passed away. Fortunately, at the time of the wedding
he made her the sole heir to a huge life insurance policy and his home. While
she is distraught over the loss of her husband, she is in good financial situation.
I guess the story has a good ending for her.
Our
discussion group was very successful. So nice to see everyone again. We are
talking about doing zoom meetings in the future…as it will soon be too cold to
sit outside. I learned so much about the importance of the Red Sea to the
world. So many countries…many in the third world…that depend on shipping good
in. The US, China, and Russia all have military bases in the area. So many poor
countries are willing to accept help from anyone who offers…even with strings
attached. Colonization certainly didn’t help these countries. Many have borders
set up during colonization that split tribes, split peoples, and destroyed or
tried to destroy cultures. Now it is a real hotbed of terrorism, civil war, and
poverty.
