It has been around since the 12thCenturyBC. It has only been divided since
the 1950’s. Such a shame.
I guess many candidates don’t check the dictionary before using a
term. Bush and others have recently used the term ‘anchor babies’ when talking
about immigration. That term first hit our vocabulary back when many Vietnamese
came to the US after the war. It reappeared in 2006. Dictionary definitions say
it is ‘pejorative’, ‘racial slur’, ‘offensive’. So why use it?

Work is rushing forward on the Harmon Warehouse. Four masons are
very busy laying the 65,000 bricks being hauled from Clemenceau, where the old
smelter is being dismantled. Two homes are also being erected for Mr. Young and
Mr. Harmon.
Fourteen-year-old Ralph Juarez shot himself in the foot on
Thursday while he was unloading his .22 following a target shoot. Dr. M. G. Fronske
says he is getting along fine.
At Babbitt’s this week. Del Monte Coffee 4 lbs. 96 cents; Steak 29

Turkana — It had been a good season,
despite the drought, and everyone agreed that Arabo Chiere should throw a
party. He was a rich man, owned vast herds, and was widely thought to be a
sorcerer, able to transform himself into any animal he wished. It was also the
case that Arabo’s daughter had turned 12, or nearly so, which meant she was
becoming a woman. All these details produced a ripeness that Arabo could not
ignore, though he had tried for a while, before the elders finally chided him
into accepting his duty. Now it was on: he would host a huge celebration, one
of the most expensive and exhausting events of his life. The celebration,
called a Guol, would nominally honor his daughter. More practically, it would
provide what anthropologists call redistribution, in which wealth is spread
through a community, binding its members in a great burst of ritual sharing.
The Guol would draw relatives and friends from across the desert. They’d camp
in Arabo’s village for days or even weeks. In the mornings there would be songs
and dances, and in the evenings more would follow. By custom, Arabo would make
all the arrangements. He’d slaughter his cows and goats for feasting, empty his
pockets buying coffee, sorghum and tobacco.

Scotland - A Scottish mom's request for a "wee blonde girl" atop
her daughter's birthday cake led to an unusual cake topper when autocorrect
changed "blonde" to "blind." Lanarkshire resident Emily
Seggie shared a picture on Twitter of her sister's birthday cake, which was
topped with a "wee blind girl" as a result of her mother's
autocorrect mishap while sending a text message to the baker. The girl atop the
cake has dark hair instead of the intended blonde and her eyes are closed while
she holds a toothpick as a cane. The text must have autocorrected to 'blind
girl' and when my mum went to collect it she was wondering why it wasn't
blonde. They then realized what had happened after checking the text and decided
to leave it on as was funny. Hope no one is offended," Seggie told
Buzzfeed News.

Sinistrality
is the formal name for left-handedness and carries quite a history. It's based
on the Latin word "sinistra," for "on the left."
Throughout the ages, left-handedness has been associated with weakness,
impurity or evil. Today, few would consider the left-handers in our midst evil,
but they do have to endure numerous inconveniences of a right-handed world.
About 10 percent of the world's population is believed to be left-handed,
although the number ebbs and flows with time and place, researchers say. In
more free-wheeling times and cultures, researchers say, left-handedness is more
common, while in more restrictive times and places, the incidence seems to be
reduced.
Leaders throughout history are more likely to be left-handed. Left-handed U.S.
presidents include current leader Barack Obama and former White House chiefs
Bill Clinton, George Bush and Gerald Ford.
Lefties may be under-represented in the human species, but our furry friends in
the animal kingdom are more than making up for it. Around 50 percent of cats
are left-handed, according to research.
Southpaws are more prone to have allergies and migraines, and research suggests
that they are also more likely to become alcoholics. It's because the right
side of the brain has a lower tolerance to alcohol.
