My Rambling Thoughts
Great lunch today with Cheryl, her son and his family and Mary.
Nice to catch up with him and meet his family. Their vacation continues through
the weekend and they head back on Monday.
A few days ago I was ranting about needing to provide the Target
computer with my driver’s license to purchase a six pack of beer. Did some
internet searching and discovered that many beer sellers have been doing this
for about 5 years. Many people had the same reaction I had…no way. But the
policy continues. So disheartening.
Then there is the lady who was filling out registration papers for
her son’s Kindergarten Public school. One of the questions was: Was the
applicant’s birth C-section or vaginal. The mom refused to answer it, as she
felt it was too private and not needed by the school. Turns out, it has been
part of the application since 1960 and she is the first parent to complain. No
one who works with the applications can remember ever checking an application
to find the answer when a child is in trouble or having learning problems. With
all the technology, I guess we are getting more concerned about personal
information. As I recall my work days, I remember SpEd testers asking the mom a
similar question. Something about looking for information that might explain
the need for testing the child. Thought it was strange back then and still do.

Fire restrictions went in place on all public lands beginning on
this past Monday. Laurie Smith, Forest Service spokesperson, says this means no
campfires, and no smoking except in designated campgrounds. So far the Rim Fire
has burned 633 acres.

the expansion of Butler Avenue.
The American West Carnival will open on Tuesday at Fort Tuthill as

Happened
LONDON
(UPI) - On Saturday, CNN ran an entire segment on the possible sighting
of an Islamic State flag at a pride parade in London. "Just in: ISIS flag
spotted at gay pride parade," read a banner stretching across the bottom
of the news channel's TV feed as cameras repeatedly panned and zoomed in on
what turned out to be a flag featuring crude drawings of sex toys. The flag was
apparently spotted by CNN International reporter Lucy Pawle, who joined the
segment via phone to talk about her startling discovery. "This man dressed
in black and white was waving what appears to be a very bad mimicry, but a
clear attempt to mimic, the ISIS flag," Pawle said. "The black and
white flag with the distinctive lettering." Though Pawle seemed to grasp
the inauthenticity of the flag, she failed to realize the humor in it and even
reported it to nearby police. "If you look at the flag closely, it's
clearly not Arabic. In fact, it looks like it could be gobbledygook."
CNN's mistake quickly went viral, earning derision from a variety of online
news sources. CNN has since removed the video from their website. Mediaite,
however, posted a clip of the incident for posterity's sake.

56 signers of the Declaration of Independence did not sign at the same time,
nor did they sign on July 4, 1776. The official event occurred on August 2,
1776, when 50 men signed it. The names of the signers of the Declaration of
Independence were withheld from the public for more than six months to protect
the signers. If independence had not been achieved, the treasonable act of the signers
would have, by law, resulted in their deaths.
