State Name Origins
One account maintain the Michigan name is
based on a Native American Chippewa word, "meicigama," meaning
"great water." Another version of the name claims the state gets its
name from Lake Michigan and that Michigan is a French conversion of the Ojibwa
word misshikama, which means "big lake," "large lake," or "large
water."
As we move west, many of the state names are
derived from Native American place names or language. Minnesota is one of them.
The name "Minnesota" comes from the Dakota Sioux word
"Mnisota," the Native American name for the Minnesota River, which
means "cloudy water" or "sky-tinted water."
The name "Mississippi" comes from
the word "Messipi" - the French version for either the Ojibwe or
Algonquin name for the river, "Misi-ziibi," meaning "great
river."

My Rambling Thoughts
It is still hazy from the CA and CO fires. Monsoon has returned. Clouds
are moving in. I hear thunder in the distance. Nice monsoon late yesterday
afternoon.
Whenever something new enters the marketplace, there are always a
few glitches. With the iPhone, I figured out not to buy the latest model when
it comes out…give it six months so Apple can fix the glitches. Covid is
basically the same. Someone needs to fix the glitches before anyone gets all
excited. Any new vaccine or treatment protocol must pass large rigorous tests.
I am tired to our game show President proclaiming a new way to stop the virus.
I have now learned how snake oil salesmen made their money.
The video of a young black man being shot 7 times in the back at
point blank range is very disturbing. Police are saying ‘don’t jump to
conclusions’. That is hard not to since the police aren’t saying anything.
The Republican Convention is off and running. I have watched some
already today, and will watch more during prime time, from a distance. Not happy
that there are no masks or social distancing. Bigger news is that Kelly Ann is
leaving after August to spend time with her family. I have not been a big fan,
but she lasted a long time and never waivered from her support of this
administration. No one can question her loyalty to Trump.
My in-law family in Chicago posted pics of the first day of school.
Sky is entering 8th grade in person, Chase started last week as a
Junior online. Wish them well.
