Random
Tidbits
White
rice, wild, jasmine, arborio and basmati rice all keep forever so there's no
need to throw them out. Brown rice is the one exception because it has a higher
oil content so store it in the refrigerator or freeze it to maximize its shelf
life. However, the one caveat is; once you've opened a bag or box of rice, move
it to an airtight container or resealable freezer bag to keep it fresh.

A little
humor
An
elderly Mormon visits his doctor and asks if he’ll live to be a hundred.
“Do
you smoke or drink?” asks the doctor.
“Those
things have never and will never touch my lips,” says the man.
“Do
you gamble, drive fast cars, and fool around with women?”
“Nope,
don’t believe in doing any of that, either.”
“Well
then,” says the doctor, “what do you want to live to be a hundred for?”

State Name
Origins
The Cornhusker State's name is based on an
Otoe Indian word "Nebrathka," meaning "flat water," which
refers to the Platte River, a symbol of Nebraska.
The Spanish influence is evident in Nevada,
whose name is derived from the Spanish phrase "Sierra Nevada,"
meaning snow-covered mountain range. "Nevada" is Spanish for
"covered in snow" or "snow-capped."

My
Rambling Thoughts
Very cloudy and a few drops of rain. Best part is that more is
coming. Lots of close lightning and thunder. A friend about 5 miles North
called to say it is raining hard out there. The last six days have broken Flags
high record.
This drought is hurting everyone along the Colorado River. Now
they are releasing extra water from Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Mead will drop
about 5 feet, Powell about 14 feet. Neither one is anywhere near full.
Kamala did her job last night. She has a fire we need.
USPS DeJoy has halted his Draconian cuts at the Post Office. Not
good enough. He says said he will not reverse changes he has made and that
adequate overtime for election mail is not in the works. Great…he needs to
resign.
Trump helper Steve Bannon has been arrested on fraud charges
regarding his fund raising for the wall. It raised $25 million, but he and his
buddies took a big chunk of it for personal use. Hard to continue to believe it
is a witch hunt.
The updated Focus Travel website now has
a new 2022 adventure. Check it out. Looks like a great time. It is a train
ride, a world class rodeo, and lots more to see.
