Ø Free Rambling Thoughts…
I’m ready for First Day of Summer. That means the monsoons aren’t far behind. We made it through the Father’s Day weekend with no big fires around Flagstaff. The rest of the stat wasn’t so lucky. We are on the National News everyday with reports of more and more forest being destroyed every day. One of our senators, John McCain, seems to have lost it mentally. While viewing the latest big fire he stated to the National Press that “[t]here is substantial evidence that some of these fires have been caused by people who have crossed our border illegally.” Of course, none of the people investigating the fires say that this has happened. They even say there is no evidence that this is what has happened. It just gets all those people who are losing their land, losing their homes, someone to blame—those illegals did it. It also puts McCain on the National news where he can push his view of illegal immigration.
When a local fire started here just outside of Flagstaff, many of my friends said “I hope it wasn’t a Navajo.” Sadly it was. The stories in the news dealt with his age, and the fact that he was mad at his girl friend. I don’t think there was a Native backlash from that fire. For some reason I don’t think that would happen if, in fact, an illegal started one of the big fires down south.

MEMPHIS - A 92-year-old Washington state man who used his false teeth to chew through the duct tape with which he was tied up received an award from a third grade class. The class at Berclair Elementary in Memphis picked Lester Matteson of Shoreline, Wash., to receive the 2011 hero medal after he used his dentures to chew through the duct tape thieves had used to tie him to a kitchen chair in December, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported Thursday. "Oh, I think they're the heroes. They're the little heroes," Matteson said of the class. Matteson was suggested to the class by 8-year-old Haley Dunwoody. "I think he's a hero, 'cause he used fake teeth to chew through tape when he got robbed," the girl said.

A boy had reached four without giving up the habit of sucking his thumb, though his mother had tried everything from bribery to reasoning to painting it with lemon juice to discourage the habit. Finally she tried threats, warning her son that, "If you don't stop sucking your thumb, your stomach is going to blow up like a balloon."
Later that day, walking in the park, mother and son saw a pregnant woman sitting on a bench. The four-year-old considered her gravely for a minute, then spoke to her saying, "Uh-oh ... I know what you've been doing."
