My Rambling Thoughts
Yesterday was Mary’s b-day lunch. We had
a great time, but it lasted into the late afternoon. Thus no post yesterday. We
left a good tip for the waiter since we hogged the table. And there were only 3
of the 15 tables being used. I hate parking in downtown Flag, but they have way
too many good restaurants for the college and tourists and brave locals who try
to find a parking place. We went to a great little place with great food.
Headed out around 9a this morning to do
some shopping. Finished up about 11:00 and drove in home in the rain. I was
listening to NPR and the local weather guy says, just as the downpour starts,
that today might have a few isolated showers, but nothing big. Well I was on
the far side of town and it rained all that way home. Hauled everything into
the house…in the rain. All done and now the rain stops. Life during Monsoon
season.
Let’s just assume that little JR. has
daily meetings with international business people and there is always a
translator present. I see how he could have forgotten one meeting. But I can’t
believe that he then reviewed his stuff, he found a string of emails and for
full transparency he released them, but he didn’t release a list of people at
this forgotten meeting.
Tired to the ‘travel ban’ talk. Glad
that one judge made the brilliant conclusion that grandparents are now close family.
He realized that without grandparents there would be no traveler. Simple
science, something the current administration doesn’t like.

Yep, It Really Happened
*------------- Birds of a Feather

A drunk driver in Louisiana was arrested while attempting to bail out her
friend who had earlier been arrested for drunk driving. Slidell Police
Department said officers pulled over a "car full of drunks" on
Saturday night and arrested the driver, who was charged with a DWI. About an
hour after police secured the offending vehicle in the parking lot and the
passengers took a cab ride home, the woman decided to return to the scene to
pick up the vehicle and get her friend out of jail. "She then drives drunk
to the Slidell Police Department in order to bail out her friend. Instead of
bailing out her friend, she's was able to join him inside the jail,"
police said. Upon arriving at the police department, the woman was arrested for
drunk driving and police hoped she learned a valuable lesson. "Lesson of
the day...don't drive drunk to a police station in order to bail out your drunk
friend!" police said.

Somewhat Useless Information
In 1928, David Armbruster first filmed
swimmers under water to study strokes. The Japanese also photographed and
studied world-class athletes, using their research to produce a swim team that
dominated the 1932 Olympic Games. This marked the beginning of research into
stroke mechanics.
***
During the Middle Ages, people feared
water because they thought it contained diseases. Swimming was not again
appreciated until the nineteenth century when it became popular in England.
People felt they could finally trust the water to be free of disease.
***
In 1946 war rationing of material
inspired the invention of the two piece bathing suite, called a
"bikini." It was named for a U.S. nuclear testing site in the South
Pacific.

‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one
other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly
once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore
difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar
was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
