Tidbits
Archaeological surveys show that cheese was
being made from the milk of cows and goats in Mesopotamia before 6000 B.C.
Travelers from Asia are thought to have
brought the art of cheese making to Europe, where the process was adapted and
improved in European monasteries.
France was the first country to cultivate
mushrooms, in the mid-17th century. From there, the practice spread to England
and made its way to the United States in the 19th century.

My
Rambling Thoughts
Our
little retirement group had a lunch at Culvers, a new hamburger joint in town. Décor
was nice, staff was very friendly. Food was a tad greasy to our old-er palates.
Good conversation, good place, eatable food. I’m going back to try their frozen
custard…that can’t be greasy.
No
response on my recent email to my elected National officials regarding the
shut-down. Guess they are all too busy digging in or getting ready to head home
for the weekend.
After
the second shut-down, the education side of the BIA figured out a way to do ‘forward-funding’
which means that schools are not affected by this shut-down. And since the 1980’s
I always had a hard time why a principal was the only one at a school who was
considered ‘essential’ and got to work while teachers were sent home. Now that
this shut-down has broken all records I am finally learning that even ‘essential’
employees who must show up and work are NOT getting paid. Those early
shut-downs, it turns out, were just a prelude for long term idiocy in 2019.Don’t
the 45-supporters realize that with all these workers at home, the backlog is
just piling up. In the end, the government workers will get their pay and have
to figure out how to ‘catch-up’ on all the reports, inspections, concerns, etc.
that were addressed while they sat at home. The ‘essential’ workers who are
working for no pay are doing the job (or calling in sick) and hoping their
coworkers will get back soon.
AZ,
or at least PHX, are in national headlines…again. This time a comatose San
Carlos Apache woman is in a care facility where she was raped 9 months ago and
gave birth to a baby boy. While I am a liberal, I was shocked that the LA Times
had an editorial, that was reprinted in our local paper, saying that collecting
DNA from every male employee/contractor was unconstitutional. OK, fine. Collect
DNA from every employee/contractor regardless of sexual identity and find out
who did this despicable act.
