MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS

We had a nice day here in FLG. I was able to run some errands with no hassles at all. The only snow left here is the piles made from a storm a couple of weeks ago. None of the last snow ever stuck to the ground. We are now only about an inch below our regular rainfall for the year that began on Sep 1. In honor of Fat Tuesday I made some shrimp jambalaya for dinner. I know I should have had pancakes, but New Orleans won out. Now wondering what I will give up for Lent. Maybe I’ll give up procrastinating. I am really good at letting the mail pile up and only paying the bills. I have piles on several flat surfaces upstairs. Would be good to clean those up and get back into the swing of taking care of mail everyday when it comes in.

Ooops. Our very conservative US Rep has been big on cutting the budget and getting the Feds out of our daily business. I thought he was against earmarks until today. It seems he has introduced a bill that will cut the wait time for getting flood insurance for the victims of last year’s flooding here in Flag. When the forest burned, those downwind were suddenly placed in a flood zone. Many bought flood insurance while the fire was still burning. Sadly for them, there is a 30 day waiting period before it goes into effect. The first of several floods came within 25 days of the fire. I hope the bill passes and that my friends and their neighbors are able to recover some of the money they lost due to the fire/flood aftermath. Suddenly for Mr. Gosar, Federal intervention is necessary. Suddenly Federal money is needed in his district. I guess this is just politics as usual. I just wish he felt the same way about health care and other social programs. I’m just so confused.

DID YOU KNOW THAT…
Place a handful of marbles in a basin and fill with warm water. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes, rolling your soles over the marbles to stimulate the pressure points that turn on calm all over!

Before wearing a new pair of boots outdoors, take a few minutes to apply a waterproofing agent. For leather styles, use an oil-based products that's free of waxes and silicones, which can clog the pores of the hide.

Stopping to wash utensils such as paring knives, whisks or wooden spoons can really slow down your
meal prep. Instead, fill a large jar or vase with hot water and a copule drops of dish soap. As you work, place dirty utensils into the jar as soon as you use them. When you reach for them again, just rinse off and they'll be ready to go--no scrubbing needed.

SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION…The Oscars
Greer Garson, who won the Best Actress award in 1942 for her part in Mrs. Miniver, gave the longest speech in Oscar history. It was more than five minutes long.

John Wayne acted in 138 films before winning an Oscar for True Grit (1969).

Henry Fonda appeared in movies for 41 years before winning an Oscar for On Golden Pond in 1981.

Judi Dench won Supporting Actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth in Shakespeare in Love, even though she appeared in the film for only eight minutes.

In 1991, Beauty and the Beast became the first animated film nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.

Meryl Streep currently has 16 nominations, 13 as Best Actress (also a record), and 3 as Best Supporting Actress. She has one win in each category.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Don't mess with the moose.
That's the warning police in Anchorage are repeating after one of the animals kicked a woman in the chest and shoulder at a city park. She was checked by medics Monday afternoon and didn't have to go to a hospital.
The Anchorage Daily News reports the moose had been in Town Square Park most of the day feeding on trees. The woman in her 20s was attacked when she tried to pet it.
Police spokeswoman Anita Shell says the moose is not a threat unless provoked, so people need to give it space.

A LITTLE LAUGH:
The young man ahead of my father at the flower shop was taking an unusually long time to place his order.
When the clerk asked how she could help, he explained that his girlfriend was turning 19 and he couldn't decide whether to give her a dozen roses or 19 roses -- one for each year of her life.
The woman put aside her business judgment and advised, "She may be your 19-year-old girlfriend now, but someday she could be your 50-year-old wife."
The young man bought a dozen roses.
