Free Rambling Thoughts
No rain,
but no hail either. Still have lots of
clouds around the horizon, so maybe, later there will be some rain later
tonight. Yesterday’s storm brought almost an inch of moisture so that was good.
I cleaned up my deck and my sidewalk after yesterday’s hard rain. Looks much
better now.
Got a
phone call and some people are stopping by to watch the Cardinal’s game
tonight. The Cards aren’t starting out
very well, but time will tell how they do tonight…and it’s still pre-season.
Ah,
Rachael Maddow did it again, she ran some old Republican Ads from
Goldwater/Miller campaign. Ads were much clearer back then. Ike spoke in one,
Reagan in another. I have to wonder why we aren’t hearing from any former
important Republicans for the Romney/Ryan team? That says a lot…in my humble
opinion. While they are trying to take us back to the days before Medicare,
Obamacare, Women’s Rights, and Social Security, they don’t have any old leaders
speaking for them. Hmmm.

Memphis TN - More than 100 FedEx employees at the company's Memphis, Tenn., parcel hub were treated for exposure after a forklift punctured a barrel of concentrated chili peppers used to make pepper spray.Memphis Fire Department spokesman Lt. Wayne Cooke told NBC News the five-gallon container was damaged by a FedEx employee outside the building early Thursday, and 117 employees were evaluated and decontaminated by fire rescue personnel.Cooke said the fire department initially responded to a hazmat alert, but the situation was not that dire.
Most of those affected were treated at the scene, but a 53-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were taken to the hospital, complaining of chest pains.
The peppers in the container are used to make pepper spray. The exposed material, capsaicin, is an irritant that is not fatal, authorities said.The substance has been contained and is no longer a threat.
Somewhat Useless Information
- The average human has about 65 square inches of nasal membrane, compared to about 900 square inches for dogs. This explains why their sense of smell is so highly developed.
- While snowmen are often depicted with carrots as noses, Frosty the Snowman's nose was a button.
- Despite the fact that nose jobs have become common in Hollywood, some still feel the need to defend these surgeries with excuses other than that they're purely cosmetic. One notable example is Tori Spelling, who admitted to having the surgery in 1994, but only to repair damage caused by a parrot bite.
- Jimmy Durante isn't the only celebrity to make a nose print in the cement in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Bob Hope did the same.
- The Proboscis monkey, named for the large nose that hangs down towards its chins, can only be found on Borneo. The creature's diet relies on leaves and fruits from trees that don't grow anywhere but on the island.
- Alfred Hitchcock joked that he would call his 1959 movie The Man in Lincoln's Nose (after the dramatic final chase sequence on Mt. Rushmore), but given concerns that such a name would be off-putting to moviegoers, it was changed to North by Northwest.
