Thoughts for the day

Another nice winter day. I’m looking forward to our discussion group this afternoon. It seems the new world order is West, East, and South. South being Brazil, India and other developing nations. It is not only the US that is changing rapidly, so is the rest of the world. How it will play out is the question…democracy, autocracy, or something new.

The Benefiber is doing a great job so far.

Forgotten American Heros…

Sophie Scholl

Sophie Scholl was a German student and anti-Nazi political activist. She was a key member of the White Rose, a non-violent resistance group that opposed Hitler's regime.

Scholl was arrested for distributing leaflets that called for active opposition to the Nazis. Her bravery and defiance, even in the face of execution, have made her a symbol of resistance.

Scholl’s legacy endures as a powerful reminder of the courage required to stand against tyranny. Her actions demonstrate the profound impact of youth activism and the importance of speaking truth to power.

Common Misconseptions…

“Napoleon lost the Russian campaign because of winter he wasn't prepared for. This one is tricky, as it is only partially true. Napoleon did not prepare for winter because he never though the hostilities would last that long and he achieved all his strategic goals, invading Russia, dispersing Russian army and capturing Smolensk and Moscow but then and essentially allowed himself to get surrounded and cut off from supplies. Also, the Grand Army left the Russian territory in mid-December meaning that, technically, Russian campaign has never been fought in winter (not that it mattered, with autumn temperatures falling to -30 degrees Celsius).”

Random Thoughts…

The biggest film of 1977: Star Wars Ep. IV: A New Hope (Action/Adventure) earned ~ $461,000,000

A group of ‘gods’ is called a Pantheon.

From my Idea Book: Get the actors that played the original kids from Barney and Friends. Make an adult comedy where they meet back up with Barney and get into shenanigans.

Any five consecutive months (except February) add up to 153 days.

Speedo originated in 1914 under the brand name ‘Fortitude’. It didn’t become known by its now-famous brand name until 1928.

Jeannette Rankin, the first Congresswoman, served just two non-consecutive terms starting in 1917 and 1941, and was the only person to vote against the declaration of war in both WWI and WWII.

The State Motto of California is “Eureka! I have found it.”
Sam Houston is the only person to be elected governor of two different states (TN and TX).
