Random Tidbits

Stress causes an area in our brain to create neodrenaline, which eases the communication between the different parts of our brain. As long as we have the right amount of the chemical, stress can push us to perform better.

However, stress has also been called "the silent killer" and can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, chest pain, and an irregular heartbeat.

Scientists suggest that stress is part of the evolutionary drive because it has enabled humans to survive. Specifically, stress temporarily increases awareness and improves physical performance.

My Rambling Thoughts

Happy Independence Day. #244 and still counting.

The monsoon arrived this morning. I was about half-way to the grocery store when the droplets started. By the time I was through shopping it was coming down hard and I had to wait minutes at the door for it to let up. When I did, I headed for my vehicle while others waited at the door. I got a little wet, but since I don’t melt, I’m good. And I’m enjoying the much cooler weather. There has been 4 15+min rainstorms so far today.

Our local university has always had a good number of foreign students. Most are from wealthy Arab countries. NAU also has a decent sized study abroad program where students have a double major and spend one year abroad in a 5-year program. The University just announced it is not sending any students abroad in the upcoming school year. A few weeks ago, they announced they are decreasing their foreign student admissions. Both changes are due to Corvid19. Both programs have been cash cows for our University. Students are left in limbo.

Several AZ towns are still having Independence Day celebrations despite our weak Governor’s order of no large group activities. One protest will be at the state capitol building, Apache Junction is having a parade, Show Low is having a food fest with other events, and Wickenburg is having a protest against the closures.  Without a national plan and/or stiff penalties, many will ignore the smart thing to do.
