Trivia
| With the
ubiquitousness of the Internet, it is easy to forget that once upon a time
the recording and passing on of knowledge was a monumentally important, even
sacred task and books were frequently more valuable than gold. Now, many
books aren't even worth the paper they are printed on, but those rare
examples of historic publications in antiquity that are still in good
condition can fetch kingly prices. Some of the most expensive books ever sold
  at auction are... Traite Des
Arbres Fruitiers : The "Treatise on Fruit Trees" is a five volume
set written in 1750. It contains illustrations and descriptions of sixteen
different varieties of fruit trees. With a 2006 purchase price of $4.5
million, it has the distinction of being the most expensive book about fruit
  trees ever sold. The Gutenberg
Bible: There are 48 Gutenberg Bibles left of the original 180 believed to
have been produced. They were printed in 1456 and were the first books
produced with moveable type. A copy sold in 1987 for $4.9 million at
  Christie's New York. |
My Sometimes-Long-Winded
Thoughts

| A decent
fall day. Took a nice neighborhood walk. A new
twist to vaccines: Many employers are requiring unvaccinated employees to
have a shot or a weekly test. The employee will be responsible for the $45
  test. This might work. Flagstaff
was the first ‘Dark Sky’ City in the country. That helps observatories not
have city lights blocking out their view. Flagstaff is celebrating the 20th
Anniversary of this process. Yeah! The
school hot lunch program began when I was in Elementary school. Kids paid
@1.25/week to get 5 hot lunch tickets for the week. For many of us, it meant
no more lunch box with homemade stuff. For my mom, it meant not having to fill
lunch boxes every morning. Today it is a hot breakfast and hot lunch program.
Thirty million school age children need this program to get necessary
nutrition. Staffing shortages and supply chain programs are harming the
program around the US. One district is ordering hundreds of Little Caesar’s
Pizzas for feed their students.  This
is a government program through USDA and this needs to be fixed…yesterday. The AZ
monsoon this year really helped the forests in our states. In the Phoenix
area it also brought about the highest rate of West Nile Virus ever recorded.
   Cards
are starting off slowly against the Texans. It is still early, so hoping they
  get it together soon. |
