Free Rambling Thoughts:   

A nice lazy Sunday.  Got a call from a former colleague who needed me to help another former colleague. The ‘other’ colleague is trying to raise her two grandkids on an aide’s retirement, while living in Flagstaff. The father, her son, is in jail for alcohol and assaulting a police officer here in Flag. She had to move out of her apt, which was in her son’s name. The colleague wanted to mail me a check for $60 so I could give her the money to pay her last apt.’s electricity bill. I was glad to do it, but must say it is so difficult to ‘help’ people who choose to live from catastrophe to catastrophe. This kind hearted lady, who needs the money, chooses to live in Flag, rather than at her own rent to buy home in Tuba. She has always lives on the edge of poverty and is now raising two grandkids to do the same. The money giver is doing this ‘charity’ work to fulfill some kind of religious belief. The receiver of the money has ‘given’ her Tuba home to her cousin-brother who is a teacher. Of course the home stays in her name so he pays a much lower payment than if he used his income statement for the determination of the payment. One final thought on this mess, the lady has aged about 10 years in the last two years. All the stress is aging her really fast. So sad.

 

Watched the Broncos win a game…that was nice. They aren’t usually on AZ TV. My mom was a die-hard Bronco fan and watched the games until the very end. Memories are always nice.

Unusual Uses for Everyday Things: Newspaper

• Deodorize food containers. Stuff a balled-up piece of newspaper into a lunch box or thermos, seal it, and let sit overnight.
• Ripen tomatoes. Wrap them individually and leave them out at room temperature.
• Pack delicate items. Wrap frames and figurines with several pieces of newspaper, then crumple the remaining sections to fill extra space in the box.
• Wipe away tough streaks on glass. Use newspaper with cleaning fluid to clean mirrors and windows.
• Preserve antique glass. Some older frames have finishes on the glass that can be damaged by cleaning solutions. Remove smudges by rubbing with newspaper dipped in a solution of one part white vinegar and one part warm water. Let air-dry.
• Dry shoes. Place crumpled paper in them overnight.
• Keep the refrigerator vegetable drawer dry and free of smells. Line the bottom with newspaper.

One reason the Military Services have trouble operating jointly is that they don't speak the same language. For example, if you told Navy personnel to "secure a building," they would turn off the lights and lock the doors. The Army would occupy the building so no one could enter. Marines would assault the building, capture it, and defend it with suppressive fire and close combat. The Air Force, on the other hand, would take out a three-year lease with an option to buy.

SOUTH GLEN FALLS, N.Y. - Police in New York state said they were looking into allegations that a mother hired strippers to perform at her 16-year-old son's birthday party. South Glen Falls Police Chief Kevin Judd and Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy III said the mother, whose name was not released, threw a surprise party for her son's 16th birthday Nov. 3 at Spare Time bowling alley, and the event was attended by 80 people, mostly 14- and 15-year-olds, The (Schenectady, N.Y.) Daily Gazette reported Thursday. Murphy said the parents of some teenagers called police when they discovered the event was attended by exotic dancers from Tops and Bottoms, an Albany strip club. "We're looking into it," Judd said. A Spare Time employee declined to comment on the incident.
