State Name
Origins
The name Missouri originates from the Native
American Sioux of the state called the Missouris. Missouri means "town of
the large canoe." Other meanings for "Missouri" include
"those who have dugout canoes," "wooden canoe people," or
"he of the big canoe."
The name "Montana" is based on the
Spanish word for mountain, montaña, though it is not known who first used the
name for the territory. The name "Montana" was proposed in 1864 when
the area was separated from the Nebraska Territory.

Rambling Thoughts
It sure looks like we are going to get some moisture. Dark clouds
up there. Humidity is still low (7%) so maybe not. It was hot enough for me by
8am. Seems like every day I turn on the cooler earlier and earlier. There is
thunder in the distance so maybe moisture.
The Dem convention goes on. Biden selected. President Nez’s speech
in the opening was decent but wished he had more of a platform.
My friend Faith and Andy stopped by with a cute little Native design
hand sanitizer holder that can clip on to a belt loop or purse strap. I really
liked it and ordered 4 more for friends. They will be ready tomorrow.
The finalized itinerary for the fall foliage tour in Sept. 2021 is
now on the Focus Travel site. Looks like a great
trip.
I have several Facebook friends who have kids or grandkids doing
school on line. They are posting pictures and videos of the youngsters zooming
a class. First issue is having a fantastic connection, otherwise it becomes
jumpy video. Second issue is keeping the child engaged since much of the time,
the connection comes and goes. Third issue is simply logging on. Then I was
reading about NAU and it’s online classes. They require a zoom connection with
the student camera turned on during class, or no credit for attending. If it is
a poor connection, and cuts off, the student logs in again but may be
considered absent. Lots of tech stuff for schools to work out.
