My
Rambling Thoughts
Good weather day. Had a nice lunch on a patio at one of our group’s
favorite local restaurants. Mary’s newly painted house looks very nice, good
contrast of colors. I had a new dish—Thai linguini with meatball. Very tasty. She
will enjoy it for years to come. Cheryl’s new roof and siding should start on
Tuesday. She is very excited as she has been waiting most of the summer to get
this scheduled. Williams is a really small town, and lots of people are fixing
up their homes.
This morning I saw the Dr. Good news…I guess. He now doesn’t
believe I have gout, nor have I ever had gout. He and his magic computer have
decided that this is another way angioedema professes itself. Really? Really!
Something about my uric acid is not high enough to be gout. And since there is
no other explanation, it must be the infamous angioedema. Next time I have “an
episode” I get to go back to trying prednisone to see if that fixes it. He also
gave me enough pain meds for the trip to Ireland, just in case. He keeps saying
that the pain meds will not fix the problem, just cover it up…so be careful as
it could be covering up something that needs medical attention. I told him I
just didn’t want to be unable to walk around while in Ireland. He said, well,
as your physician, the pain pills are to help you sleep, not to help you walk.
Fine…whatever floats his boat. I’m ready to head for the Emerald Isle. He also
has me taking Zantac along with the Allegra, saying that one blocks one kind of
histamine and the other blocks a different histamine, either or both of which could
cause the angioedema. As a youngster, I suffered from what was called ‘hay
fever’—itchy eyes, runny nose, headaches. Somehow the histamines that caused
those bothersome symptoms have now grown up and are attacking other parts of
the body…lips, mouth, wrist, and now top of the foot…not the joints, just the
top and side of the right foot…not the left foot, just the right foot. Crazy.

From 1889: The
national government has this year appropriated $38,150 toward defraying the
expenses of the territorial government, exclusive of the appropriation to the
Marshall’s Office. This represents the amount the Territory would have to pay
if it were a state. We have not the people nor the taxable property to uphold a
state government.

Why
do angelfish feel safe inside the mouths of hammerhead sharks? They share a

“Not bad. The

Yeah, It
Really Happened
PORTSMOUTH, England (UPI) - A horrified woman in England
discovered a dead mouse in a box Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, prompting
her to swear off the brand forever. Fifty-year-old Pauline Henderson was only
trying to serve breakfast to her grandson, Toby, when she noticed something
much different than a prize fall from a freshly-unsealed box of cereal.
"In the morning I poured some into a bowl for him and noticed something
black covered in the cornflakes," Henderson told the Daily Mirror.
"Then I saw the mouse. It was horrible and I felt absolutely sick ...
Goodness knows how long the mouse was in the box or if it was dead or alive
when it went in." Kellogg's in investigating the incident, and says this
is a first for the popular cereal manufacturer. "We are carrying out a
full investigation to identify if and how this occurred as it hasn't happened
before," a spokesperson said, adding, "We take food safety extremely
seriously and carry out regular quality checks in our factories."
Kellogg's offered to replace the box, but Henderson said she'll pass. "I
spoke to Kellogg's and they asked me if I wanted another box and I said 'no I
do not' ... It's put me off buying any Crunchy Nut ever again."

Useless Information
The
smallest dog on record was a matchbox-size Yorkshire Terrier. It was 2.5"
tall at the shoulder, 3.5" from nose tip to tail, and weighed only 4
ounces.
Zorba, an English mastiff, is the biggest dog ever recorded. He weighed 343
pounds and measured 8' 3" from his nose to his tail.

Dogs
can smell about 1,000 times better than humans. While humans have 5 million
smell-detecting cells, dogs have more than 220 million. The part of the brain
that interprets smell is also four times larger in dogs than in humans.
Dogs like sweets a lot more than cats do. While cats have around only 473 taste
buds, dogs have about 1,700 taste buds. Humans have approximately 9,000.

sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is
