Thoughts for the day

Happy MLK Day.

I thought Flag had been cold until I reviewed Denver’s temps. No more complaints about above 0° degree temps this winter.

As Trump returns to run the country here’s hoping his bluster will never match his actions. I agree that changes are necessary, but not those done with a sledgehammer.

Mayan Culture of Mexico and beyond…

They had intense beauty regimens.

Not only were they brilliant architects and chocolatiers, the Mayan people were fiercely creative when it comes to beauty regimens.

They glammed up their looks with clothing and makeup, from drilling holes in their front teeth to fill with jewels to head-binding as to artificially deform their skulls for a more aesthetic appearance.

Random Thoughts…

Most of us don’t like the buzzing sound that wasps and the like make, and even react with fear. But imagine if they were silent…

Cute animals probably think all humans have high-pitched voices.

An inch of rain water is equivalent to 15 inches of dry, powdery snow.

Alice B. Toklas – a 77-year-old woman who was a “bestie” of Picasso published the first recipe for pot brownies.

Origin of city nicknames…

Portland, Oregon: ‘Rip City’

Not many cities owe their nickname to a simple sports broadcast. Portland, however, is a notable exception. In 1971, when its basketball team, The Portland Trail Blazers, scored a stunning game-tying shot against their rivals The Los Angeles Lakers, commentator Bill Schonely was so excited that he blurted out a nonsense phrase, “Rip City, alright!” Somehow, this bizarre non sequitur captured the public imagination and has stuck ever since. Today there’s even a statue of these iconic words outside the team’s home at the Moda Center.
