Today’s Thoughts

It has been a while since I posted. Since my last post I have had trouble walking. I’ve been using a cane for everything. Since yesterday, I only need it for stairs. Drs. Have tried many things. They have concluded it is bursitis and the statin I take for cholesterol. I am happy that I am improving and getting better every day.  Sadly, I had to cancel my Canadian Cruise. I just couldn’t see my walking with luggage and walking on excursions for 10 days. I let them know last week. They were sorry to hear of my issues but understood. Both promised lots of photos on the trip to my social network.

This morning I got a call from my brother. The other day, after dinner, he didn’t realize his foot had fallen asleep before he stood up. When he did, he heard a crack and pain. They went to the ER in Merida. He had broken his little toe. He had surgery and got a plate and 7 screws. He must wear boot for 3 weeks, get the stiches out in two weeks and should be fine. The total bill was $3000. He said the care was very good.

Enjoy

Random Trivia…

Charles Darwin invented his own wheeled office chair. The famous researcher found that, in his study area, he would have to go through the rigmarole of walking about the office from bench to bench, desk to desk. So, to maximize his productivity and save him some valuable study time, he decided to attach wheels to his luxurious armchair.

The Circus Maximum in Rome is still the largest capacity sports arena ever built. It was used for the execution of prisoners, part of the Roman Triumph, and chariot racing. Historians believe the Circus Maximum could hold between 150,000 – 250,000 people at any given time.

Historic Events

1927 – Opening of The Jazz Singer with its Vitaphone sound-on-disc system, in New York City.

1973 – Yom Kippur War between Egypt/Syria and Isreal (October 6-25)

1981 – Anwar Sadat was assassinated in Cairo, Egypt.

Birthdays with some quotes

@87 – Thor Heyerdahl, Norwegian ethnographer, and explorer (d. 2002)
“In fighting nature, man can win every battle except the last. If he should win that too, he will perish, like an embryo cutting its own umbilical cord.”
@80 – Britt Ekland, Swedish actress
74 – Leslie Moonves, American businessman, CBS
I understand why creative people like dark, but American audiences don’t like dark. They like the story. They do not respond to nervous breakdowns and unhappy episodes that lead nowhere. They like their characters to be a part of the action. They like strength, not weakness, a chance to work out any dilemma.”
@67 – Jenny Lind, Swedish opera singer, “The Swedish Nightingale”
@67 – George Westinghouse, American businessman (d. 1914)
60 – Elisabeth Shue, American actress
“Every experience makes you grow.”
@33 – Carole Lombard, American actress (d. 1942; plane crash)
“I can’t imagine a duller fate than being the best-dressed woman in reality. When I want to do something, I don’t pause to contemplate whether I’m exquisitely gowned. I want to live, not pose!”

…The End for today…
