My Free Rambling Thoughts   

Quite the warm day for Flagstaff…our warmest of the year. While I spend a good deal of time mentioning the wind in our fair city, I must say, living at the base of Mount Elden is nice as we always have a nice small breeze. During these warm….er day, that breeze flows right through my place and makes it quite pleasant. Even better I have good control…opening the upstairs windows keeps that area cool, same with downstairs. Or I can open opposite windows up and down stairs and also keep it cool…when it is not too warm outside.

 

I have been reading some articles about America’s drone use under our current president, and how he somehow believes it is OK to kill American citizens with these drones…so far just on foreign soil. The more ‘liberal’ press is just starting to speak up about this, and actually the conservative press is still silent. The ongoing conversation has to do with the constitution and the Bill of Rights. Most of the discussion is on the 5^th amendment which in part states: …nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law…. The President believes that this right does not apply to ‘suspected terrorists’. Several lawsuits are working their way through our system regarding the killing of several suspected terrorists who were American citizens and were killed by drones in Yemen. For me, the most worrisome part of this story is that any future president will be able to use these actions as a precedent. The current quiet outcry is that American citizens are being deprived of their rights. There also has been an increase in the killing of American citizens who are believed to be terrorists in our country. We read all the time about local police killing a robbery suspect, an alleged shooter, or some other criminal. During my lifetime, we have become a very violent nation and continue to become more violent every day. It is time for a national conversation on the dangers associated with the killing of any American, including the killing by law enforcement [local, state, and Federal].

In the middle of a forest, there was a hunter who was suddenly confronted by a huge, mean bear.

In his fear, all attempts to shoot the bear were unsuccessful. Finally, he turned and ran as fast as he could. The hunter ran and ran and ran, until he ended up at the edge of a very steep cliff. His hopes were dim.

Yeah, It Really Happened

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — A woman has been charged with prostitution in Connecticut after calling police to complain about how she was being treated by a pimp.

Police say they did not find the pimp when they arrived at a Super 8 Motel in West Haven on Sunday, but they did find 35-year-old Jennifer Lowery with a man they describe as a customer.

Police charged Lowery with prostitution and 60-year-old Richard Burford of New Haven with patronizing a prostitute.

Police say Lowery told them she thought it would take police longer to show up, so she decided to conduct some business while waiting.

Somewhat Useless Information   

• Rubber shoes will do nothing to protect one from lightning.

• Talking on the telephone is the leading cause of lightning injuries inside the home.

• Lightning can reach over five miles in length, raise the temperature of the air by as much as 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and can contain a hundred million electrical volts.

• Lightning is not confined just to thunderstorms. It has been visible in volcanic eruptions, extremely intense forest fires, surface nuclear detonations, heavy snowstorms, and in large hurricanes.

• In the U.S., the odds of being struck by lightning in any one year is 1 in 700,000. The odds of being struck in a lifetime is 1 in 3,000. About 400 people survive lightning strikes in the U.S. each year.

• The Red Sprite lightning that was recently discovered is discharged very high in the atmosphere, a 40-mile span between the tops of severe storm clouds to the lower ionosphere "D" layer. They are predominately red and last for a fraction of a second. Scientists are uncertain of the cause.
